Cesspool

We long for it
A break from shackle and chains
We work for it
Something given at great pains
But was it worth it?

What empty minds we have
Spoiled never toiled
Won at someone else's expense
To sit and feast endless
With never a recompense
What a miserable mess
Our sloven demands for free rents
And the product of other's sweats.

We are mere pets
On a rug we lie
Until we die
Under the feet of masters
Pulling strings
Promising things
In return for casters
Of votes
Always speaking in quotes
Words without meaning
And preening
Arrogant men
Come from a den
Of thieves
It grieves
The souls that fought for us to be free.

Redefine
And watch decline
Our words are empty now
Isn't it funny how
We can't tell you what anything means?
Freedom means nothing
It's overused
We've purused
A million different paths
Because we could
We have stood
For a million different lies
Under a guise
Of freedom.

It was worth it
When people were lit
By a sense of right and wrong
We were strong
But now our freedom has swallowed us
In a festering puss
Of debauched flesh
What a wretch
We have become.

I had to spin it negative of course. We really take our freedom for granted. Beyond that we abuse it and demand it give us more than it can or should.
