Grass on the other fence--- Thoughtful prompt

Okay, I can relate to this idiom on so many levels. I have been a medical student from a not so privileged background which is why I have been making comparisons of my own life, my own achievements, my own strengths and weaknesses to those around me.

I thought that the lives of other people are more lively and happening than that of my own. I used to do it as a teenager and obviously there was no one that I could talk to about it. This ultimately made me feel sad and miserable until one day.

I used to look up to a senior of us. When I was in first year, he was in final year. He was a perfect student to me. All of the teachers admired him, he was getting good grades and soon after his graduation, he applied for the post of Teaching Assistant and soon started teaching in the same institute. He used to dress well and had people around him always. This is how I used to see that guys, he was the center of attention all the time. This is how I wanted myself to be.

When I was in 4th year, I heard some news that the same boy tried to kill himself. Thankfully he was safe and sound, but he did try to hurt himself. I came to know that he was diagnosed with clinical depression and was on pills for a few years now. Turned out that his family and personal issues were eating him from within.

It opened my eyes. I came to know about this idiom. The grass looks greener on the other side of the fence. Since then, I have been grateful for whatever I have and I have stopped comparing myself to others. I know that the only comparison that I should make is to myself.

Thanks my friends I hope you grasped something from this write up. The pictures and the content are my own. I have taken these pictures with my Iphone Xr in my own house for this blog.

Hello @drhakam thank you for bringing us this experience and life story, for joint reflection. I am very happy for the changes of perspectives that you manifest to have made in your conceptualization of life, I congratulate this change of attitude. Our surroundings including our fellow men can be sources of stimuli to be better people every day with ourselves and our environment, but we should not compare ourselves, we are unique and unrepeatable, each one of us very particular, that is what makes us exquisite and valuable. Until another time, in which this wonderful multiverse joins us. Health and wellness !HUG !LUV !LOLZ
