Ever Watched this movie: The Trial of the Chicago 7
I just watched this really awesome movie titled ;The Trial of the Chicago 7.
Trust me, it was interesting. It talks about a mad trial happened in 1969 which is also inspired by factual events.
here's the trailer though
So, see this: It’s 1968 and there is a big political event going on in Chicago called the Democratic National Convention.
From what would have been an ordinary political meeting became very disorderly due to protests. People are furious because of various reasons like Vietnam War and civil rights among other things.
The government didn’t really like all this protest so they took some pretty extreme actions.
They charged seven individuals with conspiracy and other serious criminal offenses alleging that they were attempting to incite a riot as well as overthrow the government. Isn’t that crazy?
The whole trial is like being on a rollercoaster. There are seven defendants, each with their own story and background, and all of them are endeavoring to prove they are not guilty.
But it’s not only about them; it’s also about the larger picture, namely what these protests represented for the country and how the government responded to them.
One thing I really liked about this movie was that it made me think. It’s not just good guys versus bad guys; it goes deeper than that into justice and politics.
It really makes you think twice about things and see different perspectives.
And then there was the acting. You’ve got Sacha Baron Cohen, Eddie Redmayne, Mark Rylance, big names, who give superb performances.
They bring those characters to life so well yet you sympathize with them even if sometimes you disagree with their acts.
What else did you see in this film?
Its relevance till today is also another thing. Although it was set in the ending years of 1960s, many issues it presents such as freedom of speech, government overreach, and the power of protest are still alive today.
It teaches us that history really does repeat itself.
Overall, I highly recommend “The Trial of the Chicago 7”.
There’s drama in it, there’s suspense too and most importantly there’s heart. It reminds us why it is important to stand for your beliefs no matter what may come after you.
So if a film that will make you think and feel is what you want then look no further; my recommendation goes like this.
That’s how I see it. Thank you for having listened to me.
