Inked Drawing A witches brew
Heloise and her familiars were often intoxicated with her morning Witches brew.
I've been very busy this past week, working on my little cottage getting it ready for Summer. In so, my drawing and posting schedule has been interrupted. That lead me to a return to black and white inking. I've currently a piece I'm working on, not quite done, so until then I'm sharing Witches brew from my Witches and their familiars series.
I start with sketches in my journal and when I get a general lay out I'll scan and go digital. This gives me the freedom of inking it on layers. It's always magical to me to put some of those layers in Gif Form.
My goal with some of these is to get so intricate with the black and white that it can almost become abstract, having to search out the figures in the mass of black upon a white page.
There is no midground, only black for shadow and depth and the white of the page for highlight.
Adding one more color to background to pop characters forward.
Sometimes I'll play with adding color here and there and see how the image feels. Tho the joy of making it in just line and form is part of the reason I LOVE to ink images such as this.
There is a zen to making curvilinear lines in black upon white. And I find I can do it for hours.
My current piece, which I hope to share this week, is in my alternate Universe with the tech arriving to the people centuries earlier than our own. IN in a way it is all tied up into my Singularity work I did years ago. I think the more tech and AI move into our lives, I can't help but 'see' the future or alternate spaces and as always I like to put down to paper (real or digital) what I 'see'.
I hope you enjoyed the witch's brew and that you find a moment in your day to indulge in your own passions.
