Asking my kids to answer this common high school math would you rather.
I heard this would your rather question the other day. I had not heard it for a few years. I remember a math teacher asking us in the 9th grade. The question goes something like this.
Would you rather have a million dollars right now or 1 penned doubled every day for 30 days.
All of us yelled 1 million. Then we were shocked to see the results.
So I decided to ask my kids to get their response.
They had similar response to me when I heard it the first time.
Let’s take a look.
A Penny Doubling Each Day
If you're curious to see what that looks like, here are the numbers that show the math of a penny doubling each day. This is the real power of compound interest!

Compounding interest works people.
Invest wisely and let’s make some money.
Great way to teach about wise investing. If you ever watched Futurama they teach about compound interest. Fry had $0.97 in his bank account and after being frozen for a thousand years he had 4.3 billion!
wow! i had to do the math before choosing but this just shows us the power of addition in consistency. I cant help but relate it to life lessons. thanks for this
I love questions like that. They can be used on aptitude tests to place students, and that's good, but they make even better teaching questions: making the students think and then presenting them with a great teaching moment.
I've seen variations on that question too often over the years to pick the wrong answer, but when I was young I would have been the same as you and picked the 1 million bucks.
Fun moments for sure. Thanks for taking a read.

At the end of the day, majority of people don't see the value in compound interest 🌚
Thaats the real power of compound interest! for sure!
For that reason 20% in HBD saving is really a lot!
