I attended a Physical event one day and we were instructed to verify our registration before going into the hall.
A guy right beside me did not have a pen so he asked me to lend him mine, I did and after he was done, he returned it and thanked me.
I nodded and turned to go into the hall. Following the tag given to me, I made my way towards my seat (65).

Hardly had I settled down when I heard a "hmm" beside me, it was the guy from the registration stand.
It turned out that we were both seatmate for the event and since we're yet to kick off, we got talking.
The event was wonderful and we all had a nice time.

We took pictures with other writers and as we were leaving, he said to me,
"Please Priscilla, can you be my girlfriend?"

What the heck!

Who does that?

We barely know each other, why will I start dating you?

That's exactly what most people will say when they visit your page and find out all what you post is,

"Buy this facial mask for #1000 only"

"This book will not cost you much, just #20,000"

"This wig is giving, get yours at a cheaper rate"

"DM me for affordable hair products, you can get the smallest for #15, 000"

Aunty Chiamaka, calm down. We know you want to sell your products but do you think people will transfer their hard earned money to someone they barely know?

Mind you, it's online not physical so definitely what will be on their minds is that you are a scammer.

You have to establish trust and authority, demonstrate how nice you are and what benefit people will gain from patronizing you.

Strong relationships and trust are critical to any business transaction, especially in the digital world. I love the analogy you use to illustrate this point. It's like someone asking you to be their girlfriend on the first date, barely knowing each other. That's what customers feel when all they see on your site is "buy this, buy that."

I agree with you. You can't expect people to buy your products or services if they don't trust you. And trust is earned over time through meaningful and genuine interactions.
