The Benefits of Small-Scale Agriculture in Times of Economic Inflation

Living in a country that is full of inflation, looking for a way to make a living in an economical manner is very vital. This is a trade policy that has worked in times of economic vagaries; engaging in small-scale farming.

For may people like myself, starting a small farming operation may have been the best decision of my life. With fruits and vegetables which are grown on our own and helicopters that I sell, I have been able to minimize my expenses and even earn an extra buck or two for purchases from the grocery stores. Therefore, the fact that I have been producing my food has not only seen me save that amount of money but also feel secured knowing that I am less exposed out there for my foods.

small scale farming has helped me to cash in on the emerging market for organic locally produced foods. As consumers look for new and fresh foods grown using sustainable methods, there is potential and market for the small holder farmers. Through customer relations made through selling at farmers markets and through the direct sales I have formed a steady pool of clients and therefore made more profits.

participating in small scale farming business has helped me both physically and mentally. Climbing, walking, gardening, and doing yard work are aspects which have given me therapy during this uncertainty and by being outside and mirroring the real world. Other bonuses I have received include the fulfillment of getting to grow plants from seedlings to full grown and fruits and being able to share them with other people.

Therefore, going into small scale farming has been a kind of succor to me especially when there is inflation. For one, it has given me both steady income as well as one source of food; but more importantly; it has given me some sense of purpose, and strength. Indeed, youths must embrace small-scale agriculture as a golden opportunity to be involved in food production when other economic activities prove unbearable.
