初嚐泰式炒泡麵 / Trying Thai Stir-Fried Noodles for the First Time
某天,我突然想吃點不一樣的晚餐,於是到著名的東南亞移民集散地逛逛,一路上看到各式各樣東南亞的美食,但是都不太敢點,因為招牌上面只有美食名稱,但都沒有標價錢,只能口頭詢問,給我一種感覺,店家會不會根據不同人,開不同價錢,之前看新聞,很多店家會欺負觀光客,等到結帳時,開出天價,強迫客人買單,不過,也可能是我以小人之心,度君子之腹,不過,出門在外,還是小心為上。
一路逛到商場內,沒想到商場沒有地下美食街,但是它在三及四樓有幾間東南亞小吃店,有越南、印尼及泰國等不同的料理餐廳,我想,
有店面的應該會比較正派,至少菜單上會有價錢,於是就挑選一家還有客人用餐的餐廳進去,這是一家泰式小吃店,牆面上有著各式泰國家常菜的圖片,老闆娘會說泰語及中文,店內客人以東南亞客人居多,可能口味還算道地吧,吃不慣中式口味的東南亞人,才會來這裡用餐。
打拋系列的飯食,可以搭配牛、豬、雞及海鮮,一份大概是一百五十元台幣,炒飯系列也是可選牛、豬、雞及海鮮,也是一百五十元台幣,此外,還有炒米粉及炒泡麵系列,咖哩系列的較貴,大概是兩百五十元台幣一份,我點了一份炒泡麵,炒泡麵是東南亞家常菜之一,也是東南亞移民,引進來台灣後,越來越多本地店家,才開始提供這道菜,不過,應該已經改成台式口味的炒泡麵了吧,我個人認為,這家店的炒泡麵口感偏軟嫩,夾雜著些許蔬菜及碎蛋花,不知道為何,沒有很辣,我本來以為,會偏辣的,所以,吃起來就有點不夠味,唉!有點失望,店內還有販賣東南亞一些當地的飲品,都有標價,棒!但當時我不是特別想喝。
不過,聽我朋友說,這家店,在東南亞圈中,還算有點知名度,營業時間很隨興,開門時間,大概是早上十一點左右,不過有時早、有時晚,晚上假如店家有事,該天就會提早關門休息,假如周末用餐時間來的話,會一位難求,等的話,可能要等超過一個鐘頭,還只能席地而坐地吃,對不起,我真是太小瞧了它。
One day, I suddenly wanted to try something different for dinner, so I decided to check out a well-known Southeast Asian immigrant area. As I wandered around, I saw all sorts of Southeast Asian foods. But I hesitated to order because the signs only showed the food names, with no prices listed. It made me feel like the prices might vary depending on who’s asking. I’d seen news reports about some shops overcharging tourists, demanding sky-high prices at checkout. Maybe I was just being overly cautious, but when you’re out and about, it’s better to play it safe.
Eventually, I ended up at a mall. Surprisingly, there was no food court in the basement, but there were a few Southeast Asian eateries on the third and fourth floors, offering Vietnamese, Indonesian, and Thai dishes. I figured a place with a storefront would probably be more transparent, at least with prices on the menu. I picked a Thai snack shop that had a few customers already dining. The walls were decorated with photos of classic Thai home-cooked dishes, and the owner spoke both Thai and Mandarin. Most of the customers were Southeast Asian, so maybe the taste was pretty authentic—probably attracting those who weren’t used to local flavors.
They had a selection of basil stir-fry dishes with options like beef, pork, chicken, and seafood for about 150 TWD per plate. The fried rice options were the same price with similar choices. They also had stir-fried noodles and rice noodles, and the curry dishes were a bit pricier, around 250 TWD per plate. I ordered the stir-fried noodles, a popular Southeast Asian comfort dish. Ever since Southeast Asian immigrants brought it to Taiwan, more local places have started to offer it, though it’s likely been adapted to local tastes. Personally, I found their stir-fried noodles a bit too soft and mild, with a mix of veggies and scrambled egg bits. I was expecting a spicier kick, so it felt a bit bland—kind of disappointing! They did sell some Southeast Asian drinks too, all with prices clearly marked, which was nice, though I didn’t feel like having one.
According to a friend of mine, this place is actually somewhat popular in the Southeast Asian community. The hours are pretty casual; they open around 11 AM but sometimes later. If the owner has plans, they’ll close early that day. On weekends during peak times, it’s tough to get a seat, and people often have to wait over an hour, even sitting on the floor to eat. Wow, I definitely underestimated this place!
