Banana Character

This is the final draft of the banana character I made today. The reference drawing is by felt.buzz.draws. It is a cute banana character but my version took on a different style as I gave it a nice gentleman suit instead of the yellow peel.

This is already good in my opinion I could have stopped here but I defined the contours of the face and some parts of the body. Here you see the shadow formed on the eyes, on the left half of the face and the lapel on the right side is straight forward and on the final edit those became rounder giving a definition to the cheek mostly. That works for me but I also love the previous look and was satisfied with the outcome.

Minus the hard light effects, this stage of the drawing you can see the banana character is already looking great on its own. I want to talk about the form, I want to keep the idea of a banana 🍌 with peels drooping on all sides. Now that I chose a blue suit I need to swap the yellow peel with it. The upper peels became collars and the two at the bottom became lapels of the suit and I love it. The four golden buttons add to the quirkiness of the character. The lavender strips on the lapel are afterthought, they defined the suit better now. The white shirt and tie are the most challenging for me I can’t get the shape right but it was a fun piece to make. I attempted to add details to the background but it looked busy and it was competing for attention forcing me to highlight the banana with another layer of light or maybe shadow but that is too much already and so I zoomed out and held off.
