Photography with Reflections - School of Law, Recoleta, Buenos Aires [ENG/ESP]

Photography with reflections is one of the ways of capturing an image that most attracts my attention because it is to appreciate what we have in front of us from a different perspective, as if we were seeing it twice. The best thing about this technique is that it can be implemented in any type or genre of photography, a mountain reflected on a lake, a model on a window or a mirror and for street photography we can include cityscapes or in this case architecture, buildings.

Yesterday I decided to take the underground to the Recoleta neighbourhood in the city of Buenos Aires, after a whole morning of rain I knew that this place is perfect for this kind of photos and that in different areas there could be puddles of water that allow me to duplicate an image, to create a reflection so that I can make the shots more interesting.

My main target, what I had in mind was the gigantic building that houses the law school of the University of Buenos Aires.

La fotografía con reflejos es una de las formas de capturar una imagen que más llama mi atención porque es apreciar lo que tenemos en frente desde una perspectiva distinta, como si la estuviese viendo dos veces. Lo mejor de ésta técnica es que se puede implementar en cualquier tipo o género fotográfico, una montaña reflejada sobre un lago, una modelo sobre una ventana o un espejo y para la fotografía de calle podemos incluir los paisajes de la ciudad o en este caso la arquitectura, los edificios.

Ayer he decidido tomar el subterráneo hasta el barrio de Recoleta en la ciudad de Buenos Aires, después de toda una mañana de lluvia sabía que ese lugar es perfecto para este tipo de fotos y que en diferentes zonas podrían haber charcos de agua que me permitan duplicar una imagen, crear un reflejo de manera que pueda hacer las tomas más interesantes.

Mi objetivo principal, lo que tenía en mente era el gigantesco edificio que alberga la facultad de derecho de la universidad de Buenos Aires.

This is a more closed image of the façade of this building, taken from the front and at ground level, and you can see how the Doric style columns are reflected in the water although in a very soft and opaque way, I think it fits in this style of photography.

This is one of the most emblematic buildings of the neighbourhood and of the city, it was inaugurated in 1949 although its construction continued for many years before it was finally finished at the end of the 60s. If I am not mistaken, the building has a monumentalist style of architecture.

Ésta es una imagen más cerrada de la fachada de este edificio, tomada desde el frente y al ras del suelo y se puede apreciar como las columnas de estilo dórico se ven reflejadas en el agua aunque sea de forma muy suave y opaca, creo que entra en éste estilo de fotografía.

Este es uno de los edificio más emblemáticos del barrio y de la ciudad, fué inaugurado en el año 1949 aunque su construcción continuó por muchos años para finalmente ser terminada a finales de los años 60. Si no me equivoco el edificio tiene un estilo de arquitectura monumentalista.

Going back to photography and my experience yesterday, I must say that I have identified some spots where I know they can offer good angles and this is one of them, plus I was pretty sure I could find a big puddle of water on this side of the building.

Volviendo a la fotografía y a mi experiencia el día de ayer, debo decir que tengo identificado algunos puntos dónde sé que pueden ofrecer buenos ángulos y este es uno de ellos, además estaba casi seguro de que podría encontrar un gran charco de agua de este lado del edificio.

I really like this angle and the composition, the cloudy sky to add a bit of drama, the reflected columns, the landscape in the background and the child playing and jumping from one side to the other, which unintentionally helped me in the composition of this photo.

Me gusta muchísimo ésta ángulo y la composición, el cielo nublado para añadir un poco de drama, las columnas reflejadas, el paisaje de fondo y el niño jugando que saltaba de un lado a otro, lo cuál me ayudó sin querer a la composición de esta foto.

Acá les muestro un par de fotos más tomadas, una en contrapicado con gran angular y la segunda de costado.

This is without a doubt one of my favourite places for different types of photos including portraits, I even plan to do a session with a model and compose images with different themes using old costumes, reflections and the symmetry that this structure provides me with as support material.

Éste es sin duda uno de mis lugares favoritos para distintos tipos de fotos incluyendo retratos, tengo planeado incluso hacer una sesión con alguna modelo y componer imágenes con diferentes temáticas usando como material de apoyo vestuarios antiguos, reflejos y la simetría que me facilita ésta estructura.

To finish I leave you with these photos that were taken from one of the steps of this building, in order to show the other side of Figueroa Alcorta Avenue, an area with very well planned landscapes with abundant vegetation and one of the most modern areas of the city.

Para finalizar les dejo éstas fotos que fueron tomadas desde uno de los escalones de este edificio, de manera de mostrar el otro lado de la avenida Figueroa Alcorta, una zona con paisajes muy bien planificados con abundante vegetación y una de las zonas más modernas de la ciudad.
