Night Reaper - An Airborne Counter

Good Days Fellow Summoners

As usual, I am welcoming youall to my Slinterlands weekly post. Today I will share you about my experience in playing a new soulbound reward card I just got... It is the Night Reaper

Night Reaper is a strong mage, very strong however if you count in that 11 mana requirement, he becomes an ordinary. This card is vulnerable to giant killer and his signature ability is Wingbreak.

Wingbreak will make Night Reaper aim units with fly ability first. then it will add 2 more damage to the flying unit. Without any flying opponent, night reaper is not something that special, however flying opponent will make him special.

Easy to say that, is that what really happening in the battle? That's the reason why I make this post. I try a full day trying some battles to analyze this card strength.

In general I can say he is very ordinary without any flying opponent, but how about when he fight flying opponent, will he become really special? let's check them out

HIGHLIGHTED BATTLE

~Click The Image Above To See the Full Battle~

I pick this battle which have an earthquake ruleset. It's funny to see both of us using Night Reaper. This battle should be one sided regarding their units have higher level than mine. However a battle should not be as simple like that.

So here are some keys of my strategy

  1. My core unit will be Night Reaper, every other units will support him at any cost.
  2. I have a martyr there, so later in the battle my Void Dragon and Night Reaper would be powered up from that Martyr
  3. I have that vampire bat as a bait. I have it only at level 1 LoL.

Well that's all, other nothing special. so let's see how this would go

image.png

  • The battle started with both side buffing their team and debuffing their opponent. I had to admit my opponent team was faster in general.
  • They came with 7 Melee damage, 1 range damage and 5 magic damage, which made a combined 13 damage per round.
  • My team had 2 Melee damage, 2 range damage and 4 magic damage. So we had a combined 8 per round. Definitely my team was the weaker here, we hit almost half damage of their.
  • By the number, I should have lost badly here. They were faster and they hit harder. But I believed my team had a better line up. so let see what happened next

image.png

  • as expected, round 1 looked like a one sided battle. I lost two units and they did not lose anyone.
  • although they were leading, in this round they lost their night reaper. I saw this as a big loss and from that point forward, my team started to catch up.

image.png

  • Most of my units were gone in round 2, so I had to start round 3 with two units only. This looked very bad but I still believe we were on a par.
  • In this round my Night Reaper killed that pelacor bandit. Pelacor bandit with his 4 melee damage was the most dangerous unit in my opponent line up.

image.png

  • it looked like my team was really catching up. it's not 2 vs 3 on the fourth round. However earthquake played first, so their Naga Assassin died first here.

image.png

  • Round 5 was the last one. Same as all the round, earthquake damage took part first, killing their Twilight Basilisk. I won although it was a tight battle.

What do we learn from that battle?

I am not writing a lot in this post because this is my first experience too in using Night Reaper and I do not want to make myself look like some god damn genius. I prefer to have some good feedback here from you who might have more experience in using Night Reaper.

So In general the points I could share here are:

  1. Night Reaper is super strong against flying unit. But it means he can be countered easily by other Night Reaper.
  2. You better plan how to put your night reaper in the line up. Don't be like my opponent in that battle, he lost his Night Reaper first. Despite having better units, he ended up losing, didn't he?
  3. 11 mana for a non tank position is hard, so you must think twice about what unit you could bring up to populate your line up.
  4. Despite being a strong one, Night Reaper is not a god-like unit.. not something that could frustrate your opponent such as Quora Towershead, Coerl Lurker, Kron the undying, and others. You need to have other strong units too.

So do you have your own opinion about this card? please share them below in comment .Thanks for coming and have a blast in Splinterlands Battles!!
