MAGI OF CHAOS: Extra Magic Canon

Hello welcome back to my Splinterlands weekly battle challenge. This week we have Magi of Chaos as our main theme. Magi of Chaos is a mage from Chaos Legion Edition and he is an Epic rarity Neutral monster.

As we can see above, There is nothing special on Magi of Chaos stats. His speed is slow, he works well in lower league however on silver above, we often see him moves last. The magic damages is quite decent, not small, however it is not something that amazing.

Neutral Monster

The main selling point of Magi of Chaos is his Neutral Element, we can use him in whatever element we pick, as long there isn't any TAKING SIDE ruleset. As a mage we can not say he is great, in Fire Element we Djinn Apprentice and Inferni who are faster than magi. In Water Element, we have Nerrisa Tridawn and she is a lot more powerful than Magi of Chaos.

However when you need two or more mages in your team, he will come in handy for sure. The reason is simple, because he is not weak (nor strong) so he can compete with the 2nd and 3rd option.

Affordable Price

I want to say he is cheap, but I don't know what will happen in future. Currently the price is very affordable and investing in him will bring you benefit for sure because of his Neutral Element which you can use him in any team.

When I post this one on 10th October 2022, you need around $16 to get a level 3 Magi of chaos who has 3 magic damage. I think price wise it is a good deal.

Battle Preparation

I had no clue about which ruleset should I pick, because Magi of Chaos could work well at any ruleset due to no ability on him. This was the ruleset I stumbled on to:

  • STAMPEDE ~ The Trample ability can trigger multiple times per attack if the trampled Monster is killed.
  • MELEE MAYHEM ~ Melee attack Monsters can attack from any position.
  • 56 MANA

There was not anything special about these rulesets that could boost up Magi of Chaos. I picked this one just to show that this decent mage could perform well in any ruleset. I picked Earth Element because I had Obsidian, and I would form a team of Melee-Magic combination attacks for this one.

This was a Modern Format Silver League Rank Battle and I used my Scholarship account from Metanomy. I liked my opponent, He brought Warchang... I always love seeing Warchang in any battle, I feel like a little boy coming to zoo and see some cute Elephant

This was not an easy match up, my opponent line up was good. I lost in speed and I might need some luck later. Let see how this would go

Round 1

  • The game started as both party buffing and debuffing their monsters and opponent's monsters.
  • My opponent had 2 magic damage, 12 range damage and 5 melee damage. Combined all they became 19 damage per turn. I haven't counted double strike from Arbalest and Recharge effect from Uriel. Bottomline, that was a nasty number
  • My team had 5 melee damage, and 11 magic damage. Combined all became 16 damage per turn. I was behind in term of DPS

  • We exchanged heavy damages, his Prismologist killed my Slipspawn and my Alvar killed his Uriel.
  • Although this looked like a tie, I got the upper hand here. His Uriel died in first turn which meant I managed to avoid any Massive 9 recharged melee damage from him.

Round 2

  • His Prismologist made a kill again, this time she killed my Alvar.
  • I made a retaliation by killing his War Chang and Time Mage

Round 3-4

  • Without any melee and any mage, all left in my opponent team were range attackers.
  • The battle became a punching bag where I slaughtered the rest of their team.

Battle Discussion

This battle looked promosing in the beginning however as it progressed it became a one sided battle. There were a few notable points why this battle ended so soon.

No Magic Defense

My opponent team was strong however they weren't able to withstand magic attacks. Both his Uriel and War Chang weren't bad, they were great, however not good against magic attacks.

This was a situation which somehow having Magi of Chaos in Obsidian Team became something that lethal. 3 Magic Damage was dangerous for a Silver League Battle

No Healing

Healing was not something that mandatory, however if you relied on range attackers / Archers, at any cost you could not let your tanks fell. By any means, whether its a heal, an armor repair, or a resurrection, you must keep the tanks alive.

My opponent didn't bring Venary Crystalsmith and his Uriel hadn't got Heal on Level 2. These caused him the lost.

Magi of Chaos

Magi of Chaos was not a super strong one, however he was not weak too. This battle showed us that the existence of Magi shifted the battle to my favor. He was not the MVP, however he played a big part in my damage build up / DPS.

On higher league he might be replaced by other monsters however on Bronze-Silver League, he is a big shot.
