Exploiting New Card: Meriput Slinger
Howdy All...
Welcome to my weekly Splinterlands Post. Last week I made this post below, and it was about getting a leveled up Meriput Slinger.
https://inleo.io/@dewabrata/how-my-season-ended-and-i-got-a-good-level-up-meriput-slinger-4xe
So in this post, allow me to continue last week topic. After a week having a leveled up Meriput Slinger, I have found out that actually having him in my lineup has increased my win rate recently.
Overall I can't say this one is a great card, however definitely it works efficiently. There are two reasons that I can figure out why it works efficiently and increase my winrate.
- People less expected a Death Element came with Range Attacks. This sounded silly you know, because there are many good range unit there. However this is the fact, most people expect death to come using some status ailment, such as poison, affliction and many others which usually came from melee and magic attacks.
- You meet death, usually you expect they are a fast team but never expect they are the faster team. Most Death Units do not have high health point, so when suddenly they move first, they have the chance to kill their opponent first. Again, this is not a better meta, but this is the least expected meta. Meriput Slinger -1 speed debuff from his slow ability makes this possible.
So based on those two condition, I have two different approach on how to exploit Meriput Slinger strength in battles.
Let's Check It out with of course... the related Battle!!!
HIGHLIGHTED BATTLE ~ Exploit Range Attack
This is our first study case, I like using Meriput Slinger because he has 4 range damage and that number is perfect... perfect in term it is not small, but not too big because if the damage is 5 or more, they can be countered by forcefield ability.
So what should we do when we want to exploit the big range damage? Simple, find a partner in crime, the same one that deals big damage.
I usually use this Dhampir Stalker, not because he is the best or the most suitable one, it is more because I have him LoL. I like Lira The Dark but I rarely use her because most of the time she is gone from my line up. That's how Rental Market work anyway, can't expect they are always available all the time.
Using a Dhampir Stalker and Meriput Slinger will give you a combined 8 range damage, and this number is more than capable to wipe out any units in one go.. yes one go because those cards have the same speed so they will move all together.
let's see how this would go
- The battle started with both side buffing their magic attacks... We both came with pretty much equal level there. They had some better ones but some at the basic.
- They came with 8 Melee damage, 3 range damage and 2 magic damage, combined those attacks, they had 13 damage per round.
- My team had 3 Melee damage, 12 range damage, and 1 magic damage, so our team had a total 16 damage per round.
- My team hit harder, that's the point of having Dhampir Stalker. my team had 12 range attack damage, which my range damage only could equal their entire team damage.
- Round 1 was a lost from my side. We did not have any casualities on both side however my Cursed Windeku was at a brink of death.
- As expected, I lost him but my team manage to kill two of their units.
- So es expected, my team managed to chase up our loses and now we were on a better side.
- I lost my ravenhood warden there, however they lost their last tank. I believed at this point, they would not be able to return anymore.
- Thanks to Holy Protection ruleset, I could not wipe them fast.
- Round 6 was the last one. Good Game.
As you can see above, it works. Double big hitter of range unit of Meriput Slinger - Dhampir Stalker can work very well. However they are some point of concerns you need to pay attention at:
- We have two big range units here, so at any cost we must have more than one tank. In this battle I have two tank, the first one is Cursed Windeku and the second one is Queen of Crows. It's a bit suicidal playing with many range units but you only rely on a single tank.
- You can hold some melee and range attacks using armor. This battle shows us that even my team has an overwhelming damage, their armors could hold off some of those attacks. Things could be worse if there is a unit with repair ability.
But overall, the meta works well. So let's check our second approach
HIGHLIGHTED BATTLE ~ Exploit Speed
Now we are entering the second study case, which is a case we want to exploit speed. Meriput Slinger has a slow ability, so I think Supply Runner is a good partner for this case.
A +1 speed buff combined with a -1 speed debuff would create a good gap rather than both slow abilities. Actually a double swiftness abilities works better but that is not our case here.
This meta should work better because we have unprotected ruleset here, none of us can have any armor. I took a big gamble by having one less units, to get a speed supremacy.
let's see how this would go
- The battle started with both side buffing their magic attacks... My speed hack was working well there, you could see none of my opponent had better speed than my slowest unit.
- They came with 6 Melee damage, and 4 magic damage, combined those attacks, they had 10 damage per round.
- My team had 6 Melee damage, and 6 range damage, so our team had a total 12 damage per round.
- My team looked better here although we had a less unit than them. Overall we delivered bigger damage per round and all of us moved first!!
- Round 1 was a total disaster for them, they lost their Cursed windeku right away and their backline bait too.
- I almost lost my main tank there, that cursed windeku managed to hang on at 1 health point.
- And everything ended on this round. Remember I hit all first, right? 12 damage first, and before they could move, they all were dead. Good Game.
Debatable you might say My Death Stalker was awesome, but in this game, its all about combination of Supply Runner and Meriput Slinger. Those two create a condition which my team overspeed them and they lost badly purely due to speed.
Speed could be countered by another faster team, however what's the odds of having a Death Element opponent who plays on speed? Currently very low, most of players are setting up good-to-great speed when they use death element, rarely they try to reach Speed Supremacy... however right now it is possible due to Meriput Slinger.
So right now you can exploit this way and get some easy wins... for how long? Well maybe until they release another new sets or some promo cards.
That's for today, Have Fun in Splinterlands Battle Field!!

I do like the Meriput Slinger, the hard hit is nice ,and it's ability to slow the opposition means you have a decent chance to land your hit first, especially with two more slows from Cursed Windeku and Queen of Crows. Then there is the Meriputs' Impede ability making the front line enemy slower with each successive hit.
Not recommended for reverse speed ruleset of course :-)
we only need an extra of blind ability which complete this speed hack
