Deals that didn't take place, but they sparked great controversy
In the history of football, many strange and controversial stories, especially when it comes to player transfers from team to team, but when it comes to deals that have provoked controversy and have not taken place, we must address the highlights.
The world of football has seen a lot of deals that have provoked controversy, between players who have long waited for certain clubs to move towards them, or deals that the media has traded for a long time without ultimately taking place.
Those deals have provoked controversy, given everyone's vision that they could offer something unique and special to the teams that players have associated with, and that makes them all more important.
Mbappe and Real Madrid
Paris Saint-Germain star Kylian Mbappe of France has, for several years, been linked with a move to Spanish club Real Madrid.
While fans of the Royal Club were preparing to receive Mbappe on a free transfer, pending the expiration of his contract with Paris Saint-Germain in the summer of 2022, the French international dealt those fans a painful blow.
Mbappe eventually decided to continue at Paris Saint-Germain, with a contract extending until the summer of 2025.
Neymar and return to Barcelona
In the summer of 2020 everyone spoke about the return of Paris Saint-Germain's Brazilian superstar Neymar da Silva to the ranks of his former club Barcelona Spain, with news circulating that Barcelona officials were trying to return the Brazilian player who left for the French club.
But the Brazilian is tied to a contract with Paris until 2022, which is difficult for the player to leave, hence the deal has not been done, Neymar has continued with his Paris Saint-Germain team, and recently extended his contract until the summer of 2025.
Messi and the departure
In a controversial incident, Barcelona's Argentine star Lionel Messi announced that he would like to leave his club before the start of the 2020 summer transfer window, amid news that Paris Saint-Germain, Manchester City and Italy's Inter Milan are interested in signing him.
But Messi reversed his decision, preferring to settle the matter after his contract with Barcelona expired, to continue within his team's ranks for one season after sparking a major controversy over his future, after the end of that season he moved to Paris Saint-Germain on a free transfer.
Paul Pogba and Real Madrid
Throughout the time of France's Zinedine Zidane at the helm of Real Madrid, the Royal Club was linked with the services of French midfielder Paul Pogba.
With Manchester United holding on during the summer of 2018 and then in 2019 Pogba's continuation, Real Madrid were unable to complete the deal.
In the summer of 2022, as Pogba's contract with Manchester United expired, Real Madrid decided not to move to include Pogba after years of interest in obtaining his services, possibly because of his many injuries and a noticeable decline in his level.
Karim Benzema and Milan
In the summer of 2018, Real Madrid star Karim Benzema was very close to moving to Italy's Milan.
It was then reported that Benzema had agreed to the terms of the move to Milan and would receive an annual salary of Euro9 million on a contract extending to 2022.
However, Ronaldo's departure from Real Madrid made Real Madrid consistently stick to Benzema, becoming since then the first star of the team's attack.
Wayne Rooney and Chelsea
In 2013, English club Chelsea were keenly interested in getting the services of Manchester United star Wayne Rooney at the time.
Ronnie revealed in 2015 the details of the conversation with Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson, which sort of contributed to his continuation.
"I went to see him and I told him, if I wasn't going to play, it might be better for me to move on," Rooney said.
He added: "Then suddenly, I went all over the media that I made a request to leave, which I never did."
Eventually, although Manchester City were also interested in including Rooney, they decided to sign a new contract at Old Trafford.
De Gea and Real Madrid
In the summer of 2015, Spanish goalkeeper David de Gea was just around the corner from a move to Real Madrid.
During the 2015 summer transfer window, De Gea was linked with a move to Real Madrid, with one year remaining until the end of his contract at Old Trafford.
Real Madrid intensified their efforts in the final hours of the transfer window to join De Gea, but the deal was not done on time for the end of the transfer market, due to a fax device malfunction for the English club.
Eventually, De Gea renewed his contract with Manchester United, and the Spanish goalkeeper continues his career so far at Old Trafford.
Dagostino and Juventus
After a very special level, introduced by Italian player Gaetano Dagosino with his club Udinese, he became one of Juventus' most important goals, with the latter making an offer for his services, but Udinese then stuck to get 18 million euros, which led to the failure of the deal.
The deal then sparked controversy, especially after the player stuck to a move to Juventus, where he said he encouraged Juventus from a young age, an attempt to pressure his club Udinese, but it did not work.
Luis Suarez and Arsenal
Uruguayan Luis Suarez recently admitted he was very close to playing for the Gunners' English club.
Suarez's move to Arsenal was a huge talking point in the summer of 2013, with former "arsenal" coach Arsene Wenger even admitting the deal was done.
Liverpool will be forced to sell Suarez if they reach any offer of more than £ 40 million, and Arsenal make an offer of £ 40 million and £1.
After Liverpool owner John Henry posted a tweet saying, "What do they smoke in the Emirates Stadium?" The deal was not done and Suarez continued at Anfield until he left for Barcelona.
Messi's departure from Barcelona broke my heart, I thought he would spend the rest of his career at Barca but sadly it didn't happen.
Mbappe to Real Madrid was just too toxic, PSG went the extra mile to keep him from leaving, but I still think he made a good call to stay at the club, who knows PSG might win the UCL next season and he coup make history with the club.
Yes, his departure from the Barcelona team was a surprise to all.
The financial offers made by Paris Saint-Germain are difficult to reject by a large percentage of players at this time.
