TOUCHING HUMANITY, BRINGING OUT THE BEST IN YOU.

The world is currently going downhill with enough chaos and bad news. The eagerness to promote delusions ruling the fickle minds of humans. People have taken to social media to quench their thirst for validation. They've accepted values and norms that are no where close to their principles just for one measley like or insincere praise.

Today, I want to dig deep into the parts of our humanity. Although, this might seem impossible at first glance, but if there's something I've learned, it's that words wield so much power.

Not the Senses

The word Human doesn't just describe one head, two eyes, two legs and arms, blood, veins and a beating heart. No. It would surprise you that some animals have more humanity than ten human beings combined.

You see, the term Human Being doesn't necessarily mean you're human, it just means you possess the five senses; sight, smell, hearing, touch and taste. Humanity is something that transcends the use of these senses. I'll explain in a bit.

The saying, a dog is mans' best friend, is not a lie. We have Humans who are trained to be doctors and nurses then dogs trained to become guides or to provide special needs. However, something happened that left my mind in an utter state of bewilderment.

I was at a hospital one day (this happened long time ago) and practically watched a mother kneel to beg the doctors to do something about her very ill daughter. Still, the requirement was a deposit in the hospitals' account. Recently, I saw a video on TikTok (staged or not, I don't know) of a dog who'd practically cut off his leash, sprinted away from his owner just to aid an old woman in crossing the street. My mind took a mental drive and I had to admit that this proved the fact that animals have more humanity than some humans.

Doing the right thing!

I think we have been so moulded by the need to please other humans we have forgotten all about our essence; what makes us who we are. I just can't seem to shake the image of that woman out of my head and the response of that hospital staff. I can't even understand what might be better than saving a life and I'm not just referring to the hospital staffs.

It's granted that they may be dependent on their jobs and can't do anything because their hands are tied, but I still believe life comes first. As I pointed out earlier, we are now so attuned with pleasing and fitting into our environments that we seem to just throw conscience away.

Unfortunately, this happens with almost all of us. We see an old woman who's struggling with a load too many but... oh no! We are in a hurry to get to somewhere. We are always in a hurry to get somewhere. Maybe that's why we lack the magic that those in previous generations experienced and also why we are getting nowhere at all!

We have filled our hearts with useless superstitious beliefs (especially here in Nigeria). We see someone whom our N50 can help but we just pass by, giving ourselves excuses on why they are there because it's their fault. Constantly, we are deviating from what makes us humans.

Make a U-Turn!

There's no use hiding it. If we continue like this in the coming years, I don't think this world would be conducive for anyone. No one is asking that you do things mindlessly, I guess that's why we have a brain but it's also why we have a heart.

Believe it or not, that organ speaks more than we ever could. It speaks even when we make wrong decisions. It's always speaking but we are always ignoring. Why? "That's not how society do it. That's not how my friends do it."

In conclusion, I believe that we can bring forth our humanity. We aren't lost yet. When you see people who truly require your help and you are compelled to respond, that's your heart talking; it is humanity. Don't just shut it down with flimsy excuses, do something! No matter how small, just do something.
