I Decide, I Design, I Know Me!

avatar

I read some of the entries on the topic presented by The Minimalist community and I have to agree with some of the views expressed by the many entries.

It Is By Design

Designing your life is something that takes a lot of effort, time and most of all courage. It takes courage to decide on your own path and walk it alone. It takes determination to not bend to the doctrines laid out for us but to hold firmly to our principles even when we earn nasty labels for them.

Whenever I come across people like that, I am awed. These are the kind of people I like to surround myself with. As they say, iron sharpeneth iron. When building, you do not pair a bricklayer with a plumber and expect them to agree. That can also be said when building our lives. You move with like minded individuals and sit with people you seek to emulate.

The Pressures of the Wild

When I read the questions, I thought of my learning process - A Slow Process( I wrote about this a few months back). We all go at different paces and while I do have a lot of laying to do in terms of the foundation for my future, I am not the same person I once was.

Exposure did two things to me: showed me my weaknesses and identified my strengths. These are some of the best things that happened to me because I fell and rose with a pen and lessons learned. We can not discover who we are if we do not go into the wild. The world outside is just the right workshop for guiding us to our big break.

All this comes down to the How I run my life. How I live it. The pressure that comes with being in my early twenties is not a joke. As a young girl, there are so many distractions(especially in my country). I am not blind to my mates accomplishing really big things and even my younger ones. I am not immune to the feelings of inadequacy and self-doubt.

The Voyage of Discovery

However, I am a human who is making discoveries. Unlike what many believe, I think that a person who takes the time to observe and study themselves can do anything; achieve anything. I see the effects everyday.

They are glaring and they point towards growth. My growth process and pace differs from all others. I am slow but steady. I do not hit milestones in one try like most of my mates, but I learn all the same.

Since I discovered what my pace is like, I stopped putting pressure on myself and just enjoyed the process. I do not let the achievements of my mates push me into taking something I am not ready for. I listen to my instincts and follow my guts. When I am ready for something, it all comes to me and I know it inside.

Decisions by Design

I discovered this with my time on Hive. With everyone I know following the trend and changing with the times; the constant influx of project development, it was easy to get swept away trying to be what I am not. During my hiatus, I discovered that my learning process was different and so I wrote about it.

After that day, I would move things that seemed to overwhelm me to the back. If I come across an announcement for some new project or some token or whatever, I'd pass. This wasn't me being nonchalant. I just wasn't interested and when I am not interested in something at the moment then I go ahead and force myself, I gain nothing but a headache!

One perfect example is the LeoThreads. I always saw this thing being talked about but had no idea what it full entailed. Finally, I decided to check it out when I felt within me that I was ready.

MY OH MY! The explosion that was!

I actually have fun there. Threading and commenting on funny threads, laughing and enjoying thread company. Then there's an announcement to mining some tokens through the tag #gmfrens on threads and it was so easy for me to migrate! No hassle whatsoever. This is just one example among many others.

Conclusion

I am living my best life according to my growth speed. I do not worry anymore about achievements and just enjoy the process. I might be slow but I am steady and when I am finally ready, like a tiger, I latch unto the game and never let go!

What a great post. I think what you have said is so important - to be true to yourself and do what suits you, when it suits you. As said its so easy to bow to peer pressure in todays society - so I applaud you for doing it your way, at your speed. As parents to a young daughter (Isla is 13 now) this is also something that is important for us, and we are also trying to teach this to our daughter - for her to be her own person.

Taking this approach through life will serve you well !

No truer words have been said. Always wanting to jump in and do something because it looks like everyone else is involved has never been the right thing to do. As you clearly stated, it is important to be ready and shun whatever pressure society may throw in our path.

Wow. This is really engaging and has more to learn from. The step by step procedures anyways still require focus to keep discipline in place. It's a kudos to you.

First of all, you write so beautifully😍

I'm entirely with you on the slow but steady process. The fast pace the world moves in can be overwhelming, and the pressure to move at that same pace worsens by the day.
Truly self-discovery is an excellent asset because once you know yourself thoroughly, it's easier to choose what to and what not to do and not feel like less of a person by letting go of trends or opportunities that everyone seems to be rushing into.

Not everything is for everyone and doing things that feel right for you saves one a lot of headache.
Like you, I'm moving slowly but I'm steady and we'll get to our destinations someday, that is if our journies of self-discovery ever ends lol

Hello @deraaa

Whenever I come across people like that, I am awed. These are the kind of people I like to surround myself with. As they say, iron sharpeneth iron. When building, you do not pair a bricklayer with a plumber and expect them to agree. That can also be said when building our lives. Great analogy there!

My growth process and pace differ from all others. I am slow but steady. I do not hit milestones in one try like most of my mates, but I learn all the same.

I am the same

I am living my best life according to my growth speed. I do not worry anymore about achievements and just enjoy the process. I might be slow but I am steady and when I am finally ready, like a tiger, I latch unto the game and never let go!

This made me smile.
I think I'll use that quote at some point in my life.

"Like a tiger, I latch unto the game and never let go!" 🙌

I believe everyone has their specific time and pace. Rushing stuffs with yourself will only lead to depress and anxiety. Lately I’ve just learnt to enjoy the present and make the best out of it, growing at my own speed. It’s never slow, it’s just how it is. Thank uuu for this nice content

@deraaa This. Is. SO. Good!! Hearing a young woman secure in her knowledge that her path belongs to her makes me rejoice- in part for young me who did not get that memo, I am inspired by strong women. I loved how you took us through the ways that you grew to accept that some things just aren't for you... with an honest dialogue about how that can feel at times. Beautifully written through and through :)
