Self Care Sunday: Laundry And A Half Done Haircut

Hello Hivers, I haven’t posted about my weekend like I normally do because this weekend was kinda different and there wasn’t really anything interesting to share. Except for yesterday of course, but even that might not be interesting enough depending on what you define interesting as. I didn’t really do much yesterday, just some laundry and self care, and I wasn’t the one actually doing stuff for the most part.

LAUNDRY

For one, I took my stuff to the laundry, it’s been a while I went to the laundry. 4 weeks now I think. That explains why my laundry basket is full to the top. My basket is the purple one just in front of the plastic chair the little girl is sitting on . The owner of the laundry was not around when I got there so I gave my stuff to her kid sister who was running things instead.

There are just 3 washing machines here which you can see in the picture. Those are enough considering that students here don’t want to spend money on laundry when they can just do it themselves. Not many people use the laundry, because my neighborhood is small, besides the fact that my school itself has a small population. I managed to take one picture before I asked if it would be okay to take a picture because I didn’t want to get her tensed up or make her shy lol. She said it was cool, but what happened was exactly what I was afraid of: she got shy and didn’t know what to do with herself, whether to move out of the way to give me a clear shot or just stay put. That’s what her laughing was about. I took a few quick shots in order to end her misery soon lol.

STUDENT STUFF

The rest of the day was pretty much just me doing student stuff. I stayed inside and went through my lecture notes and slides between the afternoon and early evening. I have a school congress coming up and that’ll take up the entire week next week, so I’ll be missing out on academic activities for the week. The congress is a congress for Biochemistry Students of Ghana, Ghana Biochemistry Students Association (GHABSA) that will be held at the Kwame Nkrumah University for Science and Technology (KNUST). KNUST is a very popular University here in Ghana and most foreigners and tourist check it out when they come to Ghana. Not to worry, I’ll show you what it looks like next week

.

Image belongs to GHABSA

I’ll give you the details of the congress and a feel of it so be prepared and stay tuned for some travel blogs next week people! That means though that I won’t be around for academic work, so I’m trying to cover as much as school work as I can today, so that my guilt won’t weigh me down when I’m having fun at the congress. I’ll have mid semesters and quizzes soon as we come back from the congress, so this is kinda my advance contingency measure to not get caught unprepared for exam when we get back.

HAIRCUT AT THE BARBERING SALON

I don’t understand why we do it, but it’s become a thing for my friends and I that we go to the salon in the evening when we need to get haircuts. So later in the evening, I called @zzzinnn to go with me to the salon. You just had to think it didn’t you? The haircut is not in preparation for the congress. I mean it is, but that’s not primarily why I’m getting it. I mentioned in several of my posts the past few days I needed to get a haircut, this congress just pushed the timeline to get it up. It was just me getting a cut this time though because both @zzzinnn and @gunu1 had already been to the salon earlier last week.

Since I got a down cut a month ago, I’ve been struggling with picking a new hairstyle. I’ve been browsing through google pictures to get a new style so I finally chose this. I wanted to get a wavy down cut. Not sure if my barber got it right though. You tell me:)

Guy I met barber working on when I got into the salon

Second guy applying black hair dye and getting an Afro cut. I had my turn after this guy

The barber was attending to someone when I got there so I sat and waited my turn next to another guy on the salon sofa . Lucky for me, the other guy was simply applying a die and getting an Afro cut, which doesn’t take much time, so it wasn’t long before it was my turn. My cut itself took us almost 2 hours, I think lol. My phone died halfway too so I couldn’t take pictures of the entire process. I’ll show you what I have and maybe the results or final cut in a different post maybe tomorrow or one of these days.

He started my cut by applying this weird white cream that I was told was a “ hair relaxer” on my hair and combed it into my scalp lol. Jk he did take his time to comb it into my hair until my hair became very soft though. My scalp started feeling funny and itchy after he went at this for a long time. At this point, you could tell my hair softened just by looking at it.

Then he washed the relaxer off with water. Boy did this feel good and relieving. I don’t know how to explain the relief of the end of an hour long of an itching scalp! After washing with water, he washed it with a shampoo next.

Okay people, this is where the pictures end. My phone died after I took this part. So for here on, you’re going to have to work with your imagination. Don’t worry though, we’re almost done:)

So after we washed the shampoo too off, he applied another weird whitish-looking cream. I didn’t ask what this one was called because I was tired and wanted this to be all over. I did read the name of the cream or whatever that was though, but I forgot the name or what it was because it’s been almost half a day since then. After washing off this last weird cream, we just put a black dye on me and he traced my hairline to give a clean shiny cut. See, I told you we were almost done and now we are:)

These 2 pictures are from a few minutes before I posted this. Had to finally show you what I look like now lol. Did my barber get it right?

Ps: this blog was delayed because I was sooo tired when I got home last night I couldn’t write this until today. I hope you enjoyed it:)

Unless otherwise stated, all images in this post are mine

The aftereffect of the haircut is amazing, look at that. Now I can really understand why haircut over there is expensive.

Thanks man:) The barbers try their best. Just like you, I try to stick to one barber too. Cheating on your barber always leave you in regret lol.

That white cream is a hair relaxer? Hahaha, I hope it also has a relaxing effect on your upcoming week and you face the congress and all the tasks with joy and success :))

Lol I don’t know whether it’s a hair relaxer or not, but that was what my barber told me when I asked. Isn’t it?

And thank you for the well wishes for congress. We’ll see whether my “hair relaxer” can do the relaxing job haha.

The hair looks great from what I can see here. But I think I still need to see it in person. I want to clearly see the effect of the relaxer😂.

Looking forward to reading all about the congress.

I’m sure you’ll see me somewhere today. I’m literally still in the outfit of the last two pictures.

I’ll tell you all about the congress next week:) Actually starting tomorrow I’ll give you a feel of the journey first hand.

I wonder how strong that relaxer was because most times it not only itches but could also sting a little (I know from previous experience…I’m all natural now with no chemicals in my hair). It’s a good thing you didn’t go through that feeling lol.

He did a good job though with lining it up and everything too. 👌🏽

You can tell the little sister at the laundry mat was shy in front of the camera. That was funny but she seemed so nice.

That congress event sounds really fun and engaging. I hope you really enjoy yourself when you attend.

Have a great week ahead ~ 😊

I think the “strength” of the relaxer in combined effect with how long it stays on your head until it’s washed is what determines how much of the sting you feel. And your tolerance for pain too lol.

I was surprised she felt shy though because neither of us are strangers to each other. Maybe it was just the camera.

Thanks for the well wishes with the congress. I sure will have fun. I’ll write my first travel blogs about it.

Have a great week yourself:)

I give my barber a tip all the time so he pays extra attention to my hair. Strategy lol.
