A birthday celebration and mini family reunion
Last week, a day before my graduation, was my sister’s birthday. I was very excited about it because we planned to go out together, myself and my two sisters. It’d been a while the 3 of us hanged out because one of them got married and moved to another region like 3 years ago and the other got married like a year ago and moved out of our town too. So in a way, this was a mini family reunion for us.
But I wasn’t just happy about it because of that. I was very anxious of my graduation happening the following day, and this was a really good way to ease my anxiety. My graduation was actually why everyone came around, because they wanted to be there for me on my big day.
I had a rehearsal ceremony for my graduation slated for the same time we planned to go out, but I later cancelled on the rehearsal because even if I went, I would only be there physically. I’d been locked inside the past few days and wasn’t going to pass up an opportunity to hang out with my fam.
If you read my venue hunt in Tamale, Ghana post then you’ll recognize the place we went to, because it was part of the places I checked out a few months ago.
I met with my sisters at my aunty’s house and we took a tricycle to Wooden Restaurant.
We were given the menu to order and we were all confused what to order at first. I’m an indecisive person when I have sooo much food to choose from. It took me a long time staring at the menu and I eventually settled on something I recently started eating the past few days and liked - Assorted Rice. I loved how they served it. It was served like a chicken thigh looking at it from above.
I thought of going for something I’ve never tried before because there were many of those on the menu, but my sisters advised against it because I might not like it and it’d just be a waste of money then. I still ended up wasting the food though, because my plate was more than I could eat.
As we waited for the menu, we got Ceres and did our version of toasts😂. Cringey, maybe? We didn’t care.
Then after almost about half an hour of waiting, we got server. One of my sisters went for a potato stir fry and the other did indomie. It has to be the crispiest stir fries I’ve ever eaten. Wait you didn’t really think just because it wasn’t me that ordered it, I wouldn’t eat it, right? Cos my other sister and I “tasted” half of the plate there before the plate’s owner even got started herself. Younger siblings suck, man. But I’m sure she was used to it already because she practically raised us.
Anyways, back to it. Everything we ordered was great! I loved it and I’ll highly recommend it if you’re ever passing through Tamale, Ghana and want to check out some great food. I linked the place on Pinmapple to make it easier to find for you.🙂
After the food, my sisters wanted to take some pictures, so we went around a children’s playground just next to the eating space. I didn’t get many pictures of myself because you know, the camera man doesn’t get that many photos himself.
This was me being a fine boy and uncle of the year.😂 Lol the kids wouldn’t stop crying at first until they got into my hands😌.
We left Wooden after this and headed home because it was getting dark and I had to get back early to set some things in order for the big day tomorrow.
If you read this post, I mentioned that some things happened on the eve of my graduation that had me disoriented and confused. Well, they happened after I left this hang out. I’ll talk about that in a different post.

Congratulations, your post has been added to Pinmapple! 🎉🥳🍍
Did you know you have your own profile map?
And every post has their own map too!
Want to have your post on the map too?
It’s amazes me Everytime, how much you and your sister resemble.
That thing about trying new food, I totally agree. I would prefer someone else orders it and then I try it out. I can’t be the one not enjoying the food
Use someone else as the scape goat. Lol I totally get you.😂
I don’t see the resemblance between my sister and I at all. Seriously. Or maybe it’s because I don’t know my own face well enough😂
You could be blind too
That one plate on the last pic looks seriously filled. Nice to read about your family reunion. Great photos! Although I must admit that I still cringe somewhat when I see a small kid staring at a phone.
Yeah that one plate was actually MY plate. Noe you see why I said I ended up wasting the food eventually. It was too much. But that was the package I ordered, so. I didn’t think the rice would be this much though. The places I’m used to eating, the rice is normally not this much, so I assumed it must be the same here too.
You mean like staring at a camera for a picture?
No, I was referring to the uncle one ( you with the kids on the swing ) and your niece holding a phone in her hands and looking away!
It's a cute photo but kids that age holding phones... it still weirds me out. Especially as I was 19 when I first got one ( back in the year 2000 ) :<)
Lol over here kids stare at phones a lot. These two are used to staring at them because their moms play ABC tunes for them on the phones.
Dude you got a phone at 19?! Man! Can’t say I GOT one before 19, but I certainly was using one when I was I think 13 or something. I wasn’t given one, had to save up my pocket money to get a not so good phone(but a phone regardless. Haha).
My family gave me a phone when I was I think 17, and the only reason they got me one was because I was going to the University.
Kids today are used to having phones at very young ages. I know kids as old as my nephew and niece who already have iPads of their own.
I was just going to Uni, for a month or so, when my parents gave my twinsis and me a phone, on our bday.
We were kind of anti phone.
In all honesty, back then, in the year 2000, it was still somewhat special to have a cellphone ( even in Europe ). I also got my first email address that year.
I am aware of that and although I understand the parents, I doubt it's a good thing
and wonder what it does to their little developing brains.
Have a good day!
I remember you calling me to see your sisters. You looked so happy. I’m happy they came around.
I want to have a bite of your food.🥹
Yeah you helped me pick assorted rice actually.
I was glad to see them too. Might be a long time before we 3 see each other again after the wedding.
Yeah me too😂
Congratulations on graduating 🥳🥳. You and your fam look so happy! Awesome sauce.
There is nothing better than to be with one's family and to enjoy a proper meal. The food looks great, I like the photos. 👍
Congratulations on your graduation 😃
Thanks man:)
