Reflection: In Praise of Always Creating Something New!

I was having a Messenger conversation with a "Facebook friend" who was a little dumbfounded that (A) I was still blogging after 20 years and (B) that every time I write a post, I sit down and start with a blank page, and let the words flow as they may.

"Don't you ever recycle your old posts, or repost things you've written somewhere else, in the past?"

No, no I don't.

This is NOT a Judgment!

My personal views on "original content" has never been intended as a judgment or indictment of anyone else's approach.

It's simply about my own preferences.

Even when I "feel stuck" for something to write about, I'm just not inclined to try to "copy myself." In fact, I'd rather "take a pass."

I suppose I "get away with it" because I have never taken my writing too seriously, meaning that I am no slave to following "proper article formats" or writing about "popular topics."

Blogging was always more of a brain dump for me... and anyone who has spend any time at all around me knows that my brain is eternally stuffed to the gills with all manners of random thoughts and ideas.

Hence, there's rarely a shortage of subject material.

It might not be the world's most interesting subject material... but onto the page it goes!

The Ever Fascinating "Internet of People"

I suppose we all have our respective interests to follow.

Whereas I am certainly appreciative of all the information we can find online, along with all the practical stuff, my interest has pretty much always been in the human stories, and that was reflected all the way back to my earliest blogging experiences.

Sure, it's nice to know how to change the brakes in a 1997 Nissan, but it's not entertaining. Think about it: There's a really good reason why — much as we may purport to dislike them — tabloid newspapers and websites are extremely popular.

The vast majority of people care more about our Humanity than information.

Creating Something New...

I figure that in the course of almost 25 years, I've probably written on the order of 10,000 to 12,000 blog posts. Of those, maybe 50 or so have been "recycled" or self-copies... and there has typically been a good reason, like being asked to share an old piece of content somewhere.

Of course, that's not to say that I don't ramble on and on about some of the same topics... I think that sort of repetition is pretty natural... if some topic truly interests us, we tend to examine it from many angles, and over time we come to learn new things that perhaps change our perspective.

That's just part of the nature growth process we experience, as we age.

That said, there's just something appealing about always trying to create something new!

Thanks for stopping by, and have a great weekend!

I'm sure I've repeated myself a fair few times, but yeah, unless I'm editing something I wrote for work or school so it also works as a blog post, or throwing some ideas on the page so I can form them into a work memo/tutorial later, it's not about recycling. It's about sharing ideas. Sometimes to be informative, sometimes to be entertaining, sometimes because I just need someplace to vent.

Greetings friend, I think that should be the essence of everything, not to be slaves of ourselves, on the contrary use writing as that escape route where we can download our thoughts.

Your words have entertained me and reminded me that being a blogger is more a passion than anything else.

Greetings and be well....
