Managing Your Way Through Life: You Attract What You Are?
Recently, I was working on guest blogger article about "being the best you can be." Yeah, I know... it was part of a US Armed Forces ad campaign, some years ago. But hang with me!
I know that it may sound like a trite cliché, but I keep realizing in just how many ways this can be important.
My dad always taught me to strive for being the best at whatever I undertook... and one way in which this holds true is that we tend to attract what we ARE, in terms of people, events, actions and things.
Think about it. When you feel drawn to someone or something, it's typically because that person or thing "resonates" with you, on some level, right? We feel a sort of kinship, or affiliation... most of the time based on some form of "commonality."
People often forget — or lose sight of — the fact that others are drawn to them, based on that very same energy exchange. They "experience" a certain vibe coming from you and feel like they want to know more, or know you better, or they relate to what you do or provide in the world.
Managing Our Vibes... Awareness!
Now, stop for a moment and reflect on what and what you generally attract. Sometimes we might not think there's a pattern, but if you take a little time to think about it, chances are you'll see it. This matters, because it may tell you a surprising number of things about who you are and what you are projecting to the world. And you may not even be aware of it!
There a few places in which this holds more true than in friendships, relationships and dating. And so, when you find yourself pondering why you keep attracting "uninteresting" or "unattractive" or "out of control" people, or maybe invariably end up in "substandard jobs" that don't take advantage of what you have to offer... what might really be going on?
Are you the person you'd want to date? Are you the employee you'd want working for you?
Many moons ago, I worked as an independent consultant and "work purpose" coach, and when I asked people to do the above "exercise" of looking for their patterns, most often the answer I would get was "Oh, I'd never thought about it... THAT way."
As much as we humans would like to think that we are all "equal" and don't judge, truth is that we tend to have an internal "pathfinder" that usually steers us in the direction of "like begets like," even if we're not aware of doing so.
And that — in and of itself — is an excellent reason to always try to be your very best, especially if you are hoping to attract the very best into your life.
It's Not About "Brilliance!"
However, don't misunderstand what I mean by being your best. I'm not suggesting that you somehow have to become a neurosurgeon, or a rocket scientist, or an Olympic level athlete. Or that you need to start getting plastic surgery to become "perfectly pretty."
Being "your best" really means making the most of what you already are, not trying to "become" something impossible or out of reach. After all, you wouldn't be yourself, anymore...
In other words, if you're a cab driver, be the best cab driver you can be. Or you may not be a brilliant writer, but you can still present your writing well, and do spell checking, and so on. It's about showing you care, more than it's about ability or appearance.
I am definitely not a "great writer" but I still get invited to write pieces for magazines, blogs and web sites... because I always do my best, with every piece of writing... even if it's not on a "serious" topic.
Because it matters.
I'll wrap this out with a small shoutout to @tarazkp whose post The Convenient Lie in part inspired today's post.
Thanks for stopping by, and have a great remainder of your week!

No doubt.... We attract what we are.
Becoming the best in whatever we do surely is the right way to live.... Not taking anything for granted
For those of us with many interests and jobs requiring us to be a jack-of-al-trades, there is a tension between excellence and getting the job done. I find if I don't know when to say, "good enough," I get too far behind and things that matter more suffer as a consequence.
