A Good Night to Hibernate and Ignore the World!
Although we live in what most would consider a fairly "temperate" zone, we do occasionally get some serious winter weather.
This afternoon, the beginnings of a major winter storm started slowly rolling in... nothing major yet, but we have bitter cold and snow in the forecast till Thursday.
A look out onto the back deck, slightly before dinnertime
I made a somewhat earlier than usual "town run" today; stood in line at the Post Office for a very long time, and then headed to the Safeway supermarket which was packed to the rafters with people acting like 8-10 inches of snow would make us shut in till March!
I made it just about halfway home again — by 4:15pm — when the first snowflakes started to fall, and Mrs. Denmarkguy and I determined that this bit of winter weather was really the perfect excuse to "hibernate" for a couple of days and largely ignore the outside world.
And if anyone were to aske why "weren't going to such-and-such" we would be able to blame it on the weather... since we live a bit outside of town, in a very hilly area where the snowplows are county rather than city, and we are considered pretty low priority.
We didn't give ourselves many opportunities to just "stop what we're doing" because we're almost always "on call" for our home businesses... particularly Mrs. Denmarkguy's counseling practice... so it feels like a bit of a luxury to choose to not do much.
Mrs. Denmarkguy built a fire in the fireplace in the living room, and we actually just sat down with hot chocolate and the cats for a couple of hours, in between working a bit on some of our creative endeavors.
Our fluffy cat Smudge really appreciates a nice fire!
It feels good to finally not be running, which is perhaps a sad reflection on just how busy and hectic our modern lives tend to be.
Meanwhile, the snow quietly continues to fall... and will, for a while. Our weather tends to be extremely localized around here, so depending on where you are within about a 50 mile (80km) radius of where we live, expected snowfall is between none at all and 18" (55cm) or more. The weather folks say about 4" (10cm) here, but they are almost invariably wrong!
Regardless, we are just crossing our fingers for the electricity to stay on... thankfully, this is very light freezing snow, so hopefully we won't have broken branches falling on the lines.
We still need to finish decorating the tree...
It's all too easy to end up worrying about a lot of different things... from your crypto investments going to zero, to the electricity going out. In most instances, though, these are all like investing ourselves in something that might not happen at all.
Life tends to come and go in cycles. And so it is.
For the moment, I am just going to watch the snow fall, and not worry too much about it.
Daylight pictures tomorrow, I am sure!
Thanks for reading, and have a great Holiday week!

You know what they say... you have nothing to fear but fear itself. We spend so much time worrying about things that never happen. It's a cat's life!
I believe it was Mark Twain who said something along the lines of "Worry is like making payments on a loan that may never need to be repair."
Cats definitely have the right idea!
Sounds nice and cozy!
Very homey photos; we have a somewhat similar stone fireplace, but I like your glass doors/hybrid fireplace/woodstove arrangement. We can't close our fireplace, but it does have a "heatilator" metal firebox that heats and vents the air around it.
Merry Christmas to you and Mrs. Denmarkguy, my friend!
😄😇😉
Thank you, and good to "see" you!
It's actually a pretty good fireplace; there are big thick pipes running through the lower parts of the flue and after they heat up a good bit, there's fan system we can turn on and it blows the (non smoky) hot air inside the pipes into the room... it can get super toasty.
Sounds wonderful! Enjoy the cocoa! Love the cat photo. :))
Thanks! It was a lovely and very peaceful night. And the electricity stayed on... yay!
Nothing warms the bones like a nice real fire! Enjoy the downtime!
Thanks! Definitely nice to blow of the world for a spell, every now and then.
