Collection Power in Splinterlands
What is Collection Power?
Collection Power is a value that represents the total sum of the burn value of all cards owned by a player in Splinterlands. This value is calculated by combining the individual burn value of each card in the collection. Collection Power is crucial in different aspects of the game, but it does not include cards that have been delegated or rented to a player's account, except for their use in tournaments as of the June 18, 2024 update. In that case, Collection Power is recalculated in real-time when the player consults the tournament interface, including the rented or delegated cards.
What is Collection Power used for
Collection Power primarily serves as an entry requirement for tournaments, ensuring that only those players who have a sufficiently powerful collection can participate in events. This measure ensures that players have adequate cards to compete on equal terms. However, some cards, such as Gladiator Cards and cards that are tied to in-game terrain, do not count towards Collection Power requirements in tournaments.
In the past, Collection Power was also used to determine the maximum league a player could reach in Modern and Wild formats, but this functionality was removed during the Ranked Battles system update on February 29, 2024. However, there are still certain benefits to reaching a high Collection Power. For example, having over 2.5 million Collection Power grants access to the special #cardcollector room on the official Splinterlands Discord server.
How can I see my Collection Power?
You can check your Collection Power by navigating to the "Cards" tab within your "Items" page in the game interface. The combined total value of your collection will be displayed here, allowing you to check if you meet the entry requirements for tournaments or other in-game events.
How is the burn value of cards determined?
A card's burn value is based on a number of factors:
Rarity: Rarer cards have a higher burn value in Dark Energy Crystals (DEC).
BCX (Base Card Experience): The number of copies of a card that have been combined to increase its level. The more copies, the higher the burn value.
Foil: Cards in Gold Foil have a higher burn value than cards in Regular Foil.
Set: Cards from older or limited editions usually have a higher burn value than cards from newer editions.
The burn value of each specific card can be viewed directly on the card details screen, within the column that displays its power. Additionally, cards can be converted into DEC, Glint, or Merits by selecting the desired card and proceeding with the burning process.
Tournaments in Splinterlands
Tournaments in Splinterlands are organized events where players compete against each other for prizes, which can range from Dark Energy Crystals (DEC), Glint, to Booster Packs or other incentives. There are different types of tournaments, each with their own rules and settings, allowing players to choose the type of tournament that best suits their playstyle.
Tournament Modes:
Modern Tournaments: Only allow the use of cards from the most recent editions, known as "Modern".
Wild Tournaments: Allow the use of all cards, including those from older or limited editions.
The choice between Modern and Wild not only affects the cards that can be used, but also the Collection Power required to enter tournaments. In a Modern format tournament, only Modern cards will count towards determining whether a player meets the minimum Collection Power. Likewise, discounted entry fees also depend on the tournament format.
Tournament Types:
"Anytime" Tournaments: This is the most popular type of tournament in Splinterlands. Players can select and submit their teams at any time within the allowed time. Depending on the number of participants, there are a predetermined number of rounds. At the end of each round, players are ranked and a percentage of them advance to the next phase of the tournament.
Single Elimination: These tournaments eliminate players after each round. It is essential that players not only register for the tournament, but also "check in" before it begins. Only those players who have completed registration and meet the requirements, such as having at least one Summoner and six eligible monsters, will be able to participate.
Sit-and-Go: This type tournaments automatically start once the required number of participants has been reached, making it a fast-paced format ideal for smaller groups of players.
Tournament Creation
Players and organizations have the ability to create custom tournaments through an interface that allows for specifying rules, formats (Modern or Wild), allowed card editions, and custom prizes. These tournaments can be used to promote projects, products, or simply to offer exciting competitions among the community. However, Splitterlands Open Tournaments can only be created by authorized Splinterlands staff.
With all of these options, tournaments in Splinterlands provide an exciting and varied competitive experience for players of all levels, where skill, strategy, and the power of the collection are key to success.
