June 20, 22: Routine, PAIN, Broken Streak, Crashing, Web Work, TV, and Games
“Slept” from nine until three tonight, but ended a good three hours short. Kept waking up because of the pain. 😢 I woke up in misery, and exhausted, and I couldn’t fathom how I would be able to get through driving and teaching all day…the only way would have been to take some serious painkillers, but they just put me to sleep and driving would have been dangerous.
Luckily, we’re ahead in the class, so even though I’ll need to make the class up over the next couple weeks, we wouldn’t get behind so I called class. Didn’t want to, but really, I wouldn’t have been able to get through the day and even if I did, I would pay for pushing it.
Not exactly a fun way to have the day off…was in constant, severe pain for the entire day, but I did take a painkiller and worked on my post until I started to get drowsy. They don’t touch the pain, but if I’m unconscious, then alright. 😮
Got a sandwich for lunch after I finished my post and between the usual wall, the painkillers, and being completely drained, I crashed out for a couple hours. I didn’t feel too terrible when I got up, but the pain was just as intense. 😢
I know that trying to recover and being in pain aren’t exactly “wasting the day,” but I really felt bad that I hadn’t accomplished anything at all. I did try and play a little Oculus, but I don’t know what the deal with it was, was being super sensitive on the controller and herky-jerking around all over. 😡😭 I powered down, so hopefully it won’t be bad like that when I try again.
Got another email from the department chair, third time now asking me to re-choose classes. Means I still don’t have a schedule for next semester, which is stressing me out, and means that by being flexible I’ve not got my first, second, or third choices and I’m now down to two classes that I’ve never taught before. So, even if I do get this schedule finally, that’s added stress since I have to create the courses, and the calendar, and everything from scratch. 😡
I’ll admit that I had a super nice schedule this semester, so I guess between the two they’ll balance out to the general mid-tier mediocrity that characterizes my life more broadly.
I couldn’t let the entire day go without getting something done, so I sat down at the computer and did my best to ignore the pain. I started trying to get connected with GitHub and get the code copied over there, but it didn’t seem to work, so I got the desktop client and worked with it that way.
I didn’t realize it, but I had typos (shouldn’t have had a period) in the .gitignore file and it was committing something like 38,870 files. 😱 There was no need to upload all the node module files, so I clicked to remove the changed files to try again…this, however, deleted my entire project! 🤬🤬😱🤬
It took quite a while for all the files to be moved over to the recycle bin, just as much time restoring them, and even more time for the file system to get caught up and stop lagging. 😢 All because of a misunderstanding…spent like an hour digging a hole and filling it back in again.
Still, got it recovered and started investigating the .gitignore file since that’s exactly the file that’s supposed to tell GitHub what to ignore. Started tinkering around and removed the period and whoosh, like ten thousand files vanished from the commit! Realized that was the problem and once it was fixed it was twenty-four files to upload - more like it.
Had a bit of trouble with it since I’d already done an initial commit with the boilerplate just as an experiment yesterday. I still didn’t find a way to delete that repository, but I renamed it and was able to get the code copied over and synched up with my local machine. So, that was one goal achieved: GitHub is up and running properly. 👍🤓
I wasn’t very hungry, so just had a bowl of cereal for dinner when Wenche got home and then we both went back to work. My goal for today had actually been to try and get the database going. It’s up and running, but I didn’t know if I’d be able to export from Hostgator or not. Luckily, I totally could and I got it imported which saved me from having to recreate all those tables and such. Cleared out all the autogenerated WordPress stuff and now the dB is set to go! 💪
I also went in and copied over the text from the FAQ page and copied over all the old code from Hostgator. I think, hopefully, I’ll be able to use some of the html and CSS to save a little work.
So that was pretty major progress. I’m more or less up to the point where I got stuck before I restarted now, but still need to integrate the database and build out the API. Plenty left to do.
Didn’t stop until late and pretty much just got ready for bed and watched about an episode or two of Its Always Sunny in Philadelphia.
Even with a bit of cheating, I wasn’t even close to half of my ten thousand step goal and I just gave up on it…at least this time I had a legit reason for breaking the streak.
What kind of play-to-earn game offers a negative daily income? Clearly, dShitty is busted and defeats its own goals (all for the sake of manipulating a dead token’s price). The only game here is: “let’s see who’s sucker enough to keep pouring money into cards.”
Meh, whatever. Did one lesson today on Rising Star to get my Ego back to zero and then completely forgot about it for the rest of the day.
It’s kind of funny, actually. Literally the only reason I need or use HiveWallet is for this damn “game,” since it’s so poorly programmed it won’t work in Keychain browser. 🤬
We’re at the magic mark on HashKings where the plants revert to the same growth state as the first day (cus programming jpegs in order is hard). What, like three more days? I suppose.
Well, four days now and still zero desire to play Splinterlands. I got assigned to a gold brawl (seems to be the case every time I get assigned, but whatever), so I do have an obligation to put those in, but otherwise I don’t really see myself wasting time on this much.
I’m betting that when they look at the data, they’re seeing an increase in playing…and so conclude that the new rewards system is working…but I’m not the only real player to lose interest, I’m certain. Can pretty much guarantee that it’s bots gone into overdrive, just milking all day in the background making it look like there are players.
Claimed my still falling drop for today, but didn’t make any more moves with vouchers at all, still have some waiting on the market as it is.
