Three Tune Tuesday・The Electric Amish

Greetings and salutations Hivers. Today let's go into another Three Tune Tuesday post.

As always, thanks to @ablaze for making this series. Lots of people participate in it! Follow the tags to find a ton of good music recommendation.

Today I have one that I bet almost none of you have heard of. Possibly @bozz has, but I unless you are from Indiana or the surrounding area, I imagine most of you haven't.

In Indiana for the past 50 years Q95 has been the number one radio channel. This was in a very large part because of the morning show hosted by Bob & Tom. They started in Michigan but then were quickly lured to Indianapolis where they stayed for the next 40 odd years. Their morning show was mostly a comedy show. Several years ago the Internet discovered it and it became pretty popular, so you may have heard of the show.

Anyway, one feature of their show was comedy songs. This was a bit like Dr Demento, I suppose, but less broad in scope and played mainly for one-off gags. One of those gags that proved popular enough to spin off into it's own thing was The Electric Amish. This group played parodies of popular songs filled with Amish jokes. They were popular enough to produce four albums, all of which sold fairly well. They haven't released any new albums since 1999, but they continue to perform around the Indiana/Michigan area.

I thought today we'd take a look at some of the funnier hits I've found on YouTube. But it goes without saying, all their songs are fun so I'd recommend searching them out if you enjoy what I share here. They aren't the best singers in the world, but they are funny enough you won't care.

Come Together

As you can probably guess from the title, this is a parody of the Beatles song of the same name.

This is still hilarious all these years later.

Black Bonnet Girls

From the Queen song Far Bottomed Girls. Again not great singing, but loaded with jokes.

Barnyard Blitz

Based on Ballroom Blitz by Sweet, this is a lot of fun. This video is from one of their Bob & Tom appearances, so you'll have to ignore the laughing and comments from the radio guys. Otherwise it is a great parody.

There really isn't too much to the joke, and in today's hyper-PC environment I suppose people would get angry at the jokes so maybe that's why they haven't released any new albums in awhile and just do touring. Still, they are fun to listen to every now and again. Add some of their songs to a YouTube playlist and come back to them every once in a while when you need a smile.

So what's your favorite?

The name sounds familiar, but I can't say that I have heard any of the songs. I used to listen to Bob and Tom quite a bit. Some of their guests were just the best and I can still remember their songs and bits.

Yeah they were all pretty wild. I used to listen daily on my way to school and I'd buy the annual best of CDs.

Such songs are good, I have listened to some and the rest I must listen to at night, after listening to such songs, the time passes well, especially I like classical songs very much.

Those guys are hilarious! I hadn't heard of them before, very funny! People these days have gotten too thin skinned, they get offended by everything. They never would have survived the the eighties or nineties!

Thanks for the great tunes!

Glad you enjoyed them. Most of their stuff is luckily on YouTube so we can easily enjoy.

Maybe I'll do more Bob & Tom stuff in the future...

There really IS more than just corn in Indiana.. I saw The Electric Amish live in Mishawaka I believe. It could have easily been Demotte though. Bob and Tom came there pretty regularly, I lived in that big trailer park just west of I65 for awhile..

Oh sweet—you are in Indiana! Bob and Tom were everywhere for awhile. Tom, Chick, and Kristi are still at it. I listen in sometimes when I can.
