Go buff yourself

Have I told you my job require me to work a long hour? Technically, before I see the sun, I need to be in the office and I don't usually go home before the sun set.And I find it difficult to drive in the dark as I don't really see where my my headlight shining to.

I know I can buff the headlights to make it clear, but that's what normally people does, and the shade will come back almost immediately. Instead of buffyself, I decided to sand it down and give it a proper clear coat.

As every DIY master in spray painting quote, the result lies between patience and hardwork. We need a little bit of both, and combine them. Prep work is probably harder then the skill. I did that once with my other car, and the bumper has a patch looks "newer" 😅

I proceed to apply one layer of the acrylic paint on top of the surface. I know I know, it don't look that good right now. I'd ask myself why would I spend so much time in fixing. I can easily get a set of projector headlamp casing for RM300(that's less than $100 for a pair of new but after market projector headlamp)

After I manage to cover all the panels, left the headlamp surface, I gave it a 500 grid sand down, and followed by another round of 600 grid. I proceed to use a slightly moist wet towel and wiped up the surface before I get my bottle of lacquer.

Note that I apply the spray from the outside. This is part of the knowledge I obtained over the year. You just won't know the very moment you press on the nozzle, how big of a spray it will splash on your hours of prepped work. Press the nozzle an inch or two from the targeted painting area and drag it across. If you're a pro, you can do zigzag. But if you're not, I recommend you so like me, do it line by line to avoid the acrylic become runny.

Looking at the finished work, it's a little disappointing at first. Once you move further away from the car and you'll notice a big difference from the one before I do any work to it yet.

After tearing down the masking tape and old newspaper, I am very happy the result proves to be significance.
