The Christmas miracle

It is almost Christmas. The holiday season is mostly about family, fun and food. Everyone seems to be in a good mood. I want to have a wonderful Christmas but it seems this happiness I can see in the faces of everyone around me caught up in the Christmas fever is not mine to feel.

Deep in thought I remunerated within myself as I watched the scenery unfolding outside the office. As People rush over to the grocery stores and malls to make their Christmas purchases. Angela, one of my staff came in with the electricity bill in her hand but she quickly retracted her outstretched hand and hid it behind her after seeing my mood. She carefully walked close to him, took a chair and sat next to me. She cleared her throat which seemed to bring out of my thoughts.

“Ah! Angela, have you offset all our debt as instructed.”

“Yes, I have Sir. But..em...em…what about you? We have settled our office debts and paid our salary and Christmas bonuses but as the accountant I noticed there's nothing left and you have not…”

Before she finished her sentence I couldn't bear her looking worried and feeling pity for me, so I quickly interrupted her and told her not to be a worrywart and everything is just going to be fine. Angela shook her head knowing me too well that I will stubbornly stick to my guns. She stood up, replaced the chair and informed me about my last appointment of the day before stepping out.

After the close of work, I casually walked to my car and drove quietly home.

I decided not to let Sam and Claire see my worried appearance as I rang the bell and my children came rushing to open the door for me. I Knelt down and gave them both a tight hug as they both giggled in my arms.

Claire raised her eyebrow, “Dad? You didn't bring with you the Christmas trees and decorations? You know mummy is going to be pissed, so you better come up with a better explanation for this.” Yea, we don't want mummy getting worked up. She's been busy all day putting the house in order for grandpa's visit.” Sam chipped in.

I kissed them on the forehead and wondered in my mind what I did to deserve these angels.

Maggie, my wife walked up and hugged me, taking my coat and suitcase from him. “Hey, come on everyone, dinner is ready.”

After the meal and Maggie had sent the children to bed. She came back and sat on my lap. “Honey, what are we going to do? I'm worried.”

“Everything is just going to be just fine” I replied, feeling less confident in myself and confused but still put up a brave face.

The next day in the office, which was the last day, at about 12 pm Angela rushed into my office and told me that one of the houses we put up for sale has finally been sold to the nice couple that came by to see the property last month. She couldn't stop herself from smiling as she relayed the news to me. I couldn't believe it. This is one the biggest property which caught few eyes because of the countryside location. I thought I was in a dreamland.

“Really?” I asked.

“Yes, really. They're on their way and have already made payments into our account…yeeee!!! Angela screamed.

I quickly called in the other staff members and told them the good news after which I held a brief meeting with them, gave Angela specific instructions on how to disburse the money and went to meet the nice couple for lunch and to close the deal.

After finalizing the deal, I called Maggie and told her to gather the children and that we're going to go and get a Christmas tree and go shopping for all we will need. I could hear Maggie's worried voice in the background but after reassuring her that I didn't borrow any money and telling her about the concluded deal with the nice couple, that's when Maggie screamed excitedly.

“Philip, this is definitely a Christmas miracle!” She said and began to make preparations with the children.

I ended the call and took a glance at the environment, got in my car, put on the radio and sang along with the carols songs coming from the radio station as I drove excitedly.

“Who would have thought that this Christmas happiness is also for me.”

It's not surprising that this family gets a miracle few days to Christmas. At festive seasons, we often look out for pleasant surprises. I'm glad the family won't go hungry and the house will be ready for grandpa's visit. A very lovely story! Well done and good luck in the contest. !LUV 🙂

Thank you for taking the time to read through my post and the encouraging comment.

The timely Christmas miracle helped Philip to believe in Christmas again after he had lost all hope of having a pleasant Christmas.
