Champions league football: Who Gets to Qualify!
Champions league football is back! What a wonderful week to watch the best football has to offer!
The games that will be played on Tuesday and Wednesday will be the last group of games that will decide the teams to qualify for the next round and those that will drop down to the Europa league and those to drop out entirely.
Out of all the 32 teams in Group A - Group H, only 2 teams from each group will qualify for the next round leaving us with 16 teams to continue their journey to contest for the cup.
The fixtures for Tuesday night are as follows:
Group A
Fc Copenhagen vs Galatasaray
Manchester united vs Bayern Munich
Group B
Lens vs Sevilla
PSV Eindhoven vs Arsenal
Group C
Napoli vs SC Braga
Union Berlin vs Real Madrid
Group D
FC Salzburg vs Benfica
Inter Milan vs Real Sociedad
And on Wednesday night we have;
Group E
Atletico Madrid vs Lazio
Celtic vs Feyenoord
Group F
Borussia Dortmund vs Paris saint Germain
Newcastle united vs Ac Milan
Group G
FK Crvena Zvezda vs Manchester City
RB Leipzig vs Young Boys
Group H
FC Porto vs Shakhtar Donetsk
Royal Antwerp vs Barcelona FC
Some of the top teams expected to perform well in their various groups have fallen beyond expectation and are in precarious positions, struggling to qualify. That's why it's said that there are no small teams in football.
Out of all the 8 groups only two teams picked up the maximum 15 points out of the 5 games played so far, they are; Real Madrid and the reigning champions, Manchester City.
The red side of Manchester are at the bottom of their group stage currently. Hopefully they can succeed in beating Bayern Munich and pick up the maximum 3 points which can tip the scale in their favor to qualify. Also struggling teams can also take advantage of some top teams that are already guaranteed a spot and will expectedly decide to rest some of their key players and field their team B mostly.
