Red Winged Blackbird

(Edited)

So you ask the question, is this really a red winged blackbird? After all, it is not really black, and the wings don’t look so red either. The answer is yes, because it’s a female! The male is the one that is black with the red wings. I had no idea they could differ so vastly, but indeed they do. Thanks to the Sigma zoom lens, I can get some super close up photos. This lens is really fantastic to use. These photos were taken at the local pond. Going back again soon to see if I can discover any other bird species. Wish me luck.

Camera: Sony A7R III
Lens: Sigma 100-400mm

The distinction helps to identify easily of the bird in just looking of its appearance. 😊

I love red-winged blackbirds and yet I had no idea the females looked so distinct. Very nice photos.

I think the detail on the picture is how I can differentiate between the Leica lens and the Sony camera. The details here are stunning and unmatchable.

Yes, it’s in the details. The Leica simply wouldn’t even remotely compare, as the sigma is 400mm focal length.

Very nice my friend, these are really good shots. The males are always the more colorful ones in bird life but I like the females too, she's a beauty. Good luck on your next trip there. Have a great Saturday.

I wish you luck in your search for these flying beauties! They are so different, the male and the female but both unique in their own right.
Beautiful photography.

Except for that pointy beak, they are so dissimilar to the male.

That is interesting, it is surprising they are so dissimilar!
