On the Way to Rae Glacier
(Edited)
After finishing my lean picnic on the last post, it was time to try and figure out where the trail to Rae Glacier starts. As the signage was pretty much useless, I had to more or less wing it, and guess where the trailhead was. Now when circling the lake, I did recall seeing a fork in the trail, but no signage indicating where it goes. Ok, let’s go back to that point. Going counterclockwise, I made my way back to that fork, and away I went. Soon thereafter, I encountered other hikers returning. Great, a perfect opportunity to query them and confirm whether or not I’m on the correct trail. Fantastic, I got confirmation that this is it! The trail was somewhat scatttered actually, as I approached the river, but I made it. Now what? Do I cross the shallow river or stay on this side, what’s the plan. No idea.

So epic, love it. You are very lucky to get these views but that's a good thing because I know you appreciate them. Keep them awesome pictures coming.
It was a blessed memorable day of photography! Thanks.
What a nice place to wander and just get lost for a while, 😄 🤣 did you cross the river or just enjoy seeing the beautiful landscape from there? Good thing you met other hikers to give you ideas of directions. The crossroads must be challenging, but you made it so great!
I did look at crossing over several different locations, but did not see a natural location to do it. Then I encountered other hikers, which pointed me in the proper direction.
That was quite an adventure!
Hope the trail wasnt to difficult for you. Thanks again for sharing great still daveks.
It was manageable, but did get tough later on. Thanks.
Is this a paid entry 'reserve' of sorts? In South Africa, we have that kind of thing. Anyway.. I'm wondering if it is and they sell some sort of 'map' of all the trails? Could be dope to have that in a book form when venturing out perhaps.. Great pics my friend. Reminds me of a tv show, where I'd see a mounty and an incredible horse making their way through lol.
Yes, there is a daily/yearly fee for entry into Kananaskis. A lot of people use the AllTrails mapping app while out and about. Only problem is that I can’t get apps on this Huawei phone. I use it purely for the Leica camera system. A trade off you might say.
That's a clever idea.. an app. Didn't even give that a thought. You Canadians seem like clever folk. Well.. your trade off, pays off - photos are always awesome! Just please keep safe and don't get lost. Take care my friend.
Thanks @ma3str0.
This is getting better and better... It's postcards!... Huge, eloquent and beautiful postcards! A round of applause for you and your magic-visual-landscape-universe!!!!... Wow... This could be called "MVLU" and sound good!... You might find that acronym useful for when you have your own landscape NFT space!... :))

Be careful out there. I know we talked about bear spray, but I guess 1 can was not enough sadly for these folks.

Yeah, making the headlines around here. I wonder if the dog attracted the bear. It seems like they did everything the right way.
What lovely captures of the landscape. Be careful of bears as I saw on the news where, unfortunately, a couple and their dog were killed by a 25 yr. old female grizzly in Banff Park. I don’t know if they used their bear spray but it obvious didn’t work. They were used to camping and hiking in the wilderness. The bear was later killed by the emergency team and reported to be with low body fat for this time of year and had bad teeth. We will never know what brought on the attack.
I am very aware of this attack, and have thought about it over and over, wondering how this could have happened. A terrible situation. Did the dog attract the bear, or maybe the light from a campfire, who knows.
Yes, I have also wondered what could have caused the attack. Maybe the smell of food cooking brought the bear to their campsite. The couple were found in their stocking feet which seems strange. Terrible thing to happen.
I guess it may make one think twice about setting up camp in the wild. I think I'll stick with just the hiking, and do the camping at a controlled campground.
It is a marvel, I can say that I also went in search of the Rae Glacier. I agree with jlinaresp, your photos look like postcards. Beautiful.
