I'm experimenting with posting some random bits of my genealogy research here with the goal of eventually creating a linked family tree on Hive.

This is an example of an individual with virtually no info other than a name and who his parents were. There is no birth date, death date or any other info. While I have found a couple of different sources for him online, neither are primary so it's hard to know where this name even came from. If I had to guess, I would say maybe a will. He may also possibly show up in census records but then at least there should be an approximate birth date. Based on his parents' ages, he was most likely born in the late 1830s or some time in the 1840s but it could be later than that. It's also possible that he died at a young age leaving less opportunity for him to show up in census and other records.

Gramps calculates this individual to be my first cousin, six times removed. The ancestor chart above was generated by Gramps.

I use GenoPro to maintain my family tree but I use other programs to generate reports/web pages. Gramps is open source software for Windows, Linux and MacOS that I have been using to generate static HTML reports and is what the info you see below is based on. I also use its relationship calculator functionality. I've also been exploring GedSite, a program that takes a gedcom file and converts it into html, and The Next Generation of Genealogy Sitebuilding which is web based and requires a setup with a web server, PHP and mySQL. Mostly I've been playing around with TNG but I'll get back to GedSite eventually.
