Vintage Photos - Lot 3 (197-200)

After getting a new scanner several years ago to scan some old slides my grandparents had, I picked up several batches of slides from Goodwill and eBay to give my scanner some more work to do. I'm not sure why these commonly wind up at places like eBay but many seem to ultimately have come from estate sales. Maybe family members just don't know what to do with them or don't care. I've seen them advertised as being for crafts and such so maybe they are commonly used for that purpose. I was more interested in the actual contents. Each slide is a little slice of history from a particular time and place. These pictures span from as early as the late 1940s to as late as the early 1990s. There are thousands of these slides. I will be scanning some from time to time and posting them here mainly because I find them an interesting way to look back at the past.

Unfortunately, the photos from this batch don't seem to generally have dates stamped on them like most of the previous batches I've gone through. However, they generally seem to be from the 1950s and 1960s. Like some of the previous batches, this one came from eBay and I don't know much about the origins of these photos other than that.

Generally, I'll refer to a lot of slides I purchased together as a batch and whatever groups of slides I am scanning at the time (usually four at a time as that is what my scanner supports) as a set.

These were all scanned with an Epson Perfection V600 Photo scanner.

The photos I can specifically identify in this set were taken in Miami Beach. They were all probably taken in 1959.

The first photo was taken from an airplane. It's difficult to know exactly where they may have been but probably on the way to or from Florida.

Thanks to the labeled statue and prominence of the motel name, this one is easy to identify as the Suez Motel in Miami Beach.

Likewise, the third photo is easy to identify as having been taken at the Sahara in Miami Beach.

The last one is another one that is hard to identify. It's a landscape shot with mountains in the hazy distance. Definitely not Florida as there are no mountains.

See the previous post in this series here.

The entire batch that has been scanned and uploaded so far can also be found here. This also includes higher resolution versions and versions with post processing.

The first photo looks kind of familiar to me because when we flew over Florida recently on our way to Mexico, the landscape at one point looked a lot like this.

It definitely could be. It is certainly flat enough. To me it looks like it might be over south Florida somewhere near the Everglades.
