Vintage Photos - Goodwill Lot 1 (041-044)
I made some impulse buys after getting a new scanner and picked up a huge batch of slides a while back. These pictures span from as early as the late 1940s to as late as the early 1990s. These were from Goodwill and eBay. There are many thousands of these slides. I will be scanning some from time to time and posting them here mainly because I find them an interesting way to look back at the past.
I don't know a whole lot about the ultimate origins of this batch of slides other than they came from Goodwill. Like previous batches, these too often have a date stamped on them that I assume indicates when the film was developed and I believe in most cases should give approximate dating for the photograph itself. So far these seem like mostly vacation photos that were taken in the 1960s and 1970s. I've identified places in Italy, France, Mexico, and Hawaii so far.
The first image in this set was processed in August 1966. It was taken outside of a building with a sign that I THINK says San Remo. If so, this could refer to the city in northwestern Italy. However, based on other photos with the same processing date, I think this is in Mexico somewhere.
The second photo was processed in September 1966 and was clearly taken on a beach somewhere. It's not obvious to me where. I've identified previous photos from this batch as being from Mexico, Italy and Hawaii so probably one of those :).
The third photo was also processed in September 1966 and was probably taken at or near the same place as the photo above. However, other than being by a pool at a resort somewhere, it isn't obvious what the location might be. Given the close proximity in processing dates to the other two photos in this set, I'm inclined to think both this and the first one were also taken in Mexico.
The last photo like the first was processed in August 1966. Google images was able to help identify this one. This appears to be the Church of Santa Trisca de Taxco in Taxco de Alarcon, Guerrero, Mexico.

These are very interesting!! I like these pics. And based on the clothing, I think these were taken in Mexico too. But idk where exactly san remo is.
I tried to do some more searches with San Remo and Mexico and found two possibilities. One was a hotel in Mexico City and the other was a seemingly random building labeled on satellite imagery near Tijuana: https://satellites.pro/San_Remo_map.Mexico
Narrowing my search more by searching for San Remo and Tijuana, it appears that this is a town with a population of 5 residents: https://mexico.pueblosamerica.com/i/villa-san-remo/ but even Wikipedia doesn't list it: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/San_Remo
I think it must be Mexico city then - there are big, impressive churches there just like in another of the pictures. Very interesting findings!!
Nice! The idea that somewhere there are individuals that share this piece of history but are unaware of this pics being out there 🧡
