Thoughts on Games
I shared my story about making games, today I share some visions. Work has a way of stealing weeks, months and years but let's take a look at some of the images I have created this year.
Here in my digital studio I am dillegently working on my list of 10,000 things to do. Right now I am writing things down that have nothing to do with what I am about to show you, but it is a hand drawn spreadsheet with more than two dozen headings. This year I have been learning what I need to learn so that I can complete some of the projects I began in 2021. I have accepted that these worlds I create need to be carefully planned and crafted over weeks if not month. There is no rush job, this takes problem solving and creative effort over a sustained period of time. Inspiration leads.
In the field of dreams we work to build beauty and wisdom perhaps, something within reason yet dancing in the realm of imagination. The care required in crafting textures and models, as well as hanging lights and creating sound, must be planned and prepared.
What I really need right now is an upgrade on my PC, that is primarily what is holding things up now. Unreal Engine 5 came out and I am not quite able to run that. I have a handful of worlds in UE4 that I work in, but often have to spend hours re-rendering due to low disk space. I need at least an extra 10TB for 3D assets, both for fabrication and for virtual reality / gaming. Teraflops are coming.
The future is coming faster than we think but takes longer to arrive. When change is here though it absolutely transforms everything. Can you imagine what life was like before the internet? Before the telephone? Before people knew how to read? The rapid advances of the next decade may leave many aspects of our lives as different as the different as renting video tapes compared to searching YouTube today. Not to have a cell phone today is to be off grid, but tomorrow not wearing AR enabled glasses or having NeuralLink plugs might be just as scary as forgetting your phone.
I am not willing to have an invasive surgery, and even the EmotivEpoc that reads your brain waves outside your skull is to much. That doesn't mean I don't still see potential, it sure would be cool to control our Player characters with our minds. What happens when we die though? It's bad enough when you are into a game and then you die, sometimes the mind seems to feel it.
