Growing up in Nigeria, in the early 2000s, my ears were always littered with news of how good the country is, how wealthy we are in natural resources, mineral resources and also in wealth. This good news was often tainted by the fact that our nation Nigeria was even far better in the past or rather should be better in the present if only we had good leaders.
Stories like this, makes you as a young boy dream of days where you will be able to change the sad and hopeless narratives of your people. We all had dreams.
As I grew up, things took a turn for the worst. As a people and nation, the citizens now go into a new year with a sad expectation of experiencing far worse treatment from the government in social amenities, economic conditions and even the little pride we have as a nation called the Giant of Africa.
There seems to be a stronghold that stumbles our growth as a nation and you can only fear for your life as a citizen. It seems the world is leaving us behind and we can’t get past the tag of “developing nation” or rather maybe we made peace with that.
Things like this have made me look at different areas the nation is suffering and what I as a young and visionary man can do within my limits for the betterment of my people and the nation at large. It finally settles in me.
Family is the smallest unit of the society and the growth of the family ensures the growth of the society. Recently, a lot has affected family values at large, and it’s obvious to see in plain sight. When you looking at the numbers of dysfunctional families, divorced couples, single parenthood, single mothers and out of wedlock children, you understand how that bad trend can affect the nation at large.
It’s no secret that children from dysfunctional families don’t do well in society. Large number of them ends up in the secret cult when they are in the university, most of them are ladies who litters strategic locations for prostitution and others ends up in the underground area of the society.
I’ve put it upon myself to help in the aspect of creating awareness through my social media platform of the potent disadvantages of dysfunctional families to the society at large, teaching family values, helping friends, families and strangers in their daily relationship problems. This I’ve been doing even before I realise its value to the society at large.
When we develop good family values, we train people who will be a good citizen to the nation. The popular saying is that youth are the leaders of tomorrow, so to have a better leader for the nation to grow better and to have a good society in the nearest future, we have to embrace a good family and societal values.
