Trinity Suburb - Centuries-old Historical Buildings
Each city has its own "visiting card", and sometimes there are many of them. There are several architectural sights in Minsk, which through the centuries have become an integral part of the big city. I have talked about some of these places in past posts and will continue to talk about them in the future. Walking in the historical part of the Belarusian capital, it is impossible to pass by a small colorful quarter - the Trinity Suburb. Buildings in this place originate from the XII century and are very reminiscent of old European architecture. It's hard to believe, but about 40 years ago, the Trinity Suburb was in a deplorable state - half of the buildings lay in ruins. Today, one of the most famous and expensive residential buildings in Belarus is located here.
Residents of the suburb on Troitskaya Gora love this place for its bohemian atmosphere combined with exclusivity. In addition, a beautiful view of the river opens from here and the historical center of the city is located. In ancient times, a wooden castle was located on the opposite side of the shore in a lowland. However, the places around it were swampy and inconvenient for settlement. For this reason, from the 12th century, the inhabitants of ancient Minsk began to actively populate the mountain on the opposite bank, which they called Troitskaya. According to one version, the name comes from the Church of the Holy Trinity, which was located on the mountain.
In 1809, a strong fire broke out in the suburbs, which destroyed all the wooden buildings. After restoration, classical houses from the time of the Russian Empire were built here. By the middle of the 20th century, the Trinity suburb lay in ruins. In the 1980s, the authorities organized a reconstruction that radically changed the appearance of the ancient part of the city. Another historical reconstruction of the Trinity Suburb took place in the first decade of the 21st century. Currently, Troitskaya Hill and all its buildings are part of the "Old Town" complex. The restoration has turned this place into an open-air museum. Crowds of tourists visit this location to see firsthand the buildings of the stone buildings of the XIX century.
In the old Trinity quarter there are monuments, museums and even the registry office. Although in fact the whole small island is a great history and architecture. In recent years, many mansions in the Trinity suburb have been purchased by enterprising investors. Some houses have been turned into hostels, some have been converted into offices or coffee shops. In terms of location, this is a good choice. However, those who stayed here obviously value their houses very much and do not want to sell them even for a lot of money.
Despite the fires, destruction and repeated restorations, the Trinity Suburb has not lost its charm. Walking through the narrow streets you can feel the spirit of antiquity. Many of these buildings have a rich individual history. It is difficult to imagine how many generations of people lived in these houses and, just like me, walked along these streets.
Several houses deserve special attention, as they are associated with famous historical figures. For me, this is a great reason to come back here again. After visiting the Trinity Suburb, you understand why this place is one of the most favorite vacation spots for Minsk residents and guests of the capital.
