It can get very difficult when we are always trying to fix or control people's lives around us. We keep thinking that it is our job to help them out, and sometimes this gets very stressing and overwhelming. Instead of focusing on others, remember that the only thing we truly have control over is ourselves.

Whenever a problem stresses us, the first thing we need to ask ourselves is, Is there anything I can do about it? If yes, take action. Do something, if possible, that will improve the situation. Having done something about it, having taken action to solve a problem, empowers us and then reduces stress.

However, when we realize that the circumstances are beyond our control, we should at least know how to accept them. Sometimes we can't improve anything in the world around us, and that is okay. Acceptance is not about liking a situation or giving up on it, rather, it's respecting our limits. On the other hand, acceptance of things that we cannot change relieves us of so much hassle and reduces our stress.

Learning to let go of control can be very difficult. Many of us feel responsible for the happiness and well-being of others, particularly the people whom we love. Nevertheless, constant efforts to manage every detail regarding everything and everyone are the surest recipe for additional stress and anxiety. Instead, we should focus on our own welfare and try to create a positive setting for ourselves.

This shift in attention itself is emancipation. We feel more at ease, less controlled by pressure and the perceived need to 'fix' others when we look inward and ponder over what we, ourselves, are doing. And these energies could be harnessed toward our own development and in areas that really matter to us.

Be kind and supportive to people, but draw a line in the sand as to where helping stops and where taking their problems as our own begins. Setting healthy boundaries is how we can maintain peace and well-being while still being there for loved ones.

The stress is normally felt whenever it comes to dealing with other things beyond our control. Giving ear to self, and acceptance of things that cannot be changed, gives room for a more relaxed and peaceful living. Remember, let go and it shall all work out as it should.
