Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin was added to the PS Plus Extra game catalog in December of 2023. This fairly new FF game introduces new characters and showcases a highly cinematic story in a darker-than-usual fashion. I'm usually not much of a Final Fantasy guy, but I had to give this one a play because it just looked so badass in the few videos I watched.
Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin is an action role-playing game developed by Team Ninja and published by Square Enix. The game was released on March 18, 2022. Stranger of Paradise takes inspiration from the original Final Fantasy games, offering a reimagined and darker take on the classic story. Players embark on a journey as Jack, the protagonist, along with his companions, Ash and Jed, as they set out to defeat Chaos and reshape the fate of the world.
The game is known for its intense and fast-paced combat, featuring a combination of brutal melee attacks and magical abilities. Players can expect a challenging experience with a focus on strategic gameplay, where mastering the combat system is crucial for success. The dark and gritty aesthetic, coupled with the infusion of classic Final Fantasy elements, creates a unique blend that stands out within the franchise.

As I figured, this game didn't hit for me. It wasn't that it was bad, it was just the fact that it's generally very difficult for me to become absorbed by this style of gameplay. It feels much too button-mashy and I just don't care for the long, drawn-out cutscenes. With that said, I feel like any fan of Final Fantasy should still give this one a try.

I grew up seeing final fantasy from afar, but never playing it. This makes it hard for me to get invested in the games now, no matter how amazing they look and feel.
