Before setting Financial goals, set a couple for Effort

Goal Time
It's that time of year again. 2022 is winding down and 2023 is about to begin. Time for people to review the goals they set for themselves last year and look at setting new ones for the next.
I'm a huge proponent of goals. They basically give you a roadmap to your own success. You map out Point A and Point Z and everything in between until you reach your destination. Then you set about taking the necessary small steps to achieve the larger goal. And instead of getting caught up in how far away the goal is, you are able to focus on the achievable little steps that are manageable and ultimately get you to your destination.
When you go from one floor of your home to the next you use stairs. Instead of trying to jump 8-10 feet in one step, you break it down into 13-14 smaller steps and ultimately reach the next level.
Think about it. When you bake a cake do you just throw in a bunch of flour and eggs and butter and salt and cocoa powder etc? No. You actually measure out each ingredient, add them in a particular order, mix it together a certain way, and then put it in the oven. You use a recipe. A map.
Source
When you build a house do you just get a bunch of wood, cement, nails, shingles, siding, wires, sheetrock, etc, and start hammering it all together? No. You start from the ground up and use a blueprint. A map.
The same should be true with your financial "house" or "cake". You need to identify the ingredients needed and then figure out what tools you'll use, and then put a picture together of how to go about getting yourself from Point A to Point Z. You need to make a plan. A map.
These are your goals.
One thing to say, another to DO
But it's one thing to say "I want to go from 100HP to 1000HP next year", it's another to actually do it. You can break it down and say you'll add 75HP a month for 12 months and that will get you there. You can even break it down further and say you'll get 2.5HP per day...times 30 equals 75HP...times 12 months equals 900HP. That's all well and good. That seems like an achievable number. But HOW are you going to get that 2.5HP per day? This is where the effort comes in.
Effort Number One
In my mind, the first thing every single person who opens an account on HIVE should do is to read some articles and start commenting. Set an "effort" goal of commenting on 10 different articles every day. You can do more or less if you want but 10 is a nice, achievable number.
Why?
Reason 1
There are two big reasons this should be your first goal. The first is that you might learn something. :-) Read articles that you are interested in. Don't just read everything that comes across. And read things that can teach some things about #HIVE and LeoFinance and some of the things happening on the platform. The more you know, the easier it will be for you to start figuring out how and where you can devote some time and energy to building your stake.
You should then write a comment on each of these articles and give them a vote. The authors of these posts will be much more likely to recognize your name and respond with votes back if you write something thoughtful about their article. Most of them spent a good chunk of time putting that article together and showing them some love by reading it and commenting on what they wrote is almost universally appreciated.
Reason 2
The second reason reading and commenting should be your first goal is that it will help you in writing your own articles. The more you read and comment, the better you'll get at interacting with people and writing things worth reading. Apply some of what you're reading to your own situation and let the author know how what they wrote can impact what you're doing. Not only will this make it obvious that you read what he/she wrote, but it will also add to the overall value of the article.
Many of the articles written oftentimes have more and even better information in the comments section. Be one of those commenters that is adding to the discussion, not just repeating what they said in the hopes of an upvote. Personally, many of what I consider my best articles come from the comments I'm making on other peoples' posts. If you take what they say and apply it to your personal situation, you very possibly will find out that your idea can be a post all it's own.
It's hard to come up with something new and creative to write about every single day. Even once or twice a week can be tough. But if you're constantly reading and commenting on other peoples' writings you'll be amazed at how many ideas can pop into your head.
Conclusion
So, as I said in the title, before you go about setting a bunch of financial goals, set some for the effort you're going to put into getting there. This is something you can 100% control. You don't need money. You don't need a bunch of information. You just need you and a willingness to put in the time. The more you do it, the easier it will become, and along the way you'll find that you will greatly improve your writing and communication skills.
Real World Example
As an example, everyone knows @taskmaster4450. He writes some of the best articles on #HIVE and Leo on a daily basis. Usually three or four a day. I was listening to his Crypto Maniacs Podcast today and he was talking about how he is currently going back and reviewing all his posts from back in the Steem days.
Do you know what he said?
He said he was a "shit-poster" back in the day. :-) But, as I said, he is now one of the most prolific and respected writers on Hive. How do you think he got there? Very simple, he just kept doing it. He put in the time and the effort and he has just kept getting better and better over time.
My point is, anyone and everyone can do this. You just need to put in the work.
For the record, this is one of my goals for 2023. I am going to read and comment on 10 articles a day. My curation suffered last year as I got away from doing it regularly, but I didn't have it as a "goal". This year it will be.
Good Luck! If you do indeed set this as a goal for yourself as I'm doing, I'm sure I'll see you around the blockchain.
Thanks for reading!

Really nice post with great tips! As far as Hive is concerned, those who follow your suggestions can certainly hope to do well but in general the discussion on effort planning is very useful and can be used in all areas of daily life!
Wishing you all your goals for 2023... of course Wishing you a merry Christmas!
A hug!
Yes, as difficult as it can sometimes be for people to actually write down their goals, the effort part can be even harder. The how is actually more important than the what. It's easy to forget sometimes. Thanks for the kind words and, of course, Merry Christmas to you! :-)
Thanks!!!!🤗
Thanks for giving great and helpful examples how to achieve our life goals. 2022 is gone and 2023 is coming. We all need to set our priorities for the coming year on how we want to spend this year. We must achieve things one by one. If we scatter, we will achieve nothing. My 2023 goals is to buy or earn 1 lac hive power to give upvote new. Thanks for sharing your valuable advice.
Yup, focus is key. Set goals you can achieve and then focus on doing the little things you need to do every day to help get you there. They all start to add up if you stay consistent. What is "1 lac hive power"? I'm not familiar with that term...
Great sentiment.
The key to making money blogging on Hive is in your initial activity.
Comments, chats and actually adding value to other people's content in order to get noticed.
I'd encourage people to start there before even starting writing any content of their own.
Keep up the great work mate! :)

Totally agree. People will find they have a LOT more success interacting with others than in trying to post articles where nobody is listening. Yes, if you're an interesting writer you can be successful by jumping right in, but if you're like most of us, it will take some time for you to build up enough name recognition for people to click on your articles, even if they don't necessarily care about the topic. Who you are and the relationships you build are every bit as important (sometimes more important) than the articles you write. It's just how it works.

I think that is a great goal and it shouldn't be too tough for you. The commenting and reading really does help and I hope more people follow through on it. In a way, I think the taskmaster 500 comment challenge might be better for a newbie.
