Hold Your Breath

Successfully blending atmospheric suspense and psychological horror, Hold Your Breath tells the story of an isolated farm threatened by dust storms and the life of a mother who chooses to live in isolation with her children.

I can say that I found the visual aspect of the movie more successful than the story, with its successful reflection of the period and scenes that make the isolated environment ordinary.

As life-threatening dust storms destroy sustainability and people choose to migrate to other regions, Margaret (played by Sarah Paulson), who chooses an isolated life with her children on the farm she owns, becomes increasingly paranoid about supernatural threats.

The character, who I think deserves praise for her period-accurate design, has a tough profile that is both physically and mentally demanding.

It's not hard to recognize his overprotective attitude, but it's hard to understand the paranoia he starts to develop in his mind. This creates a dark atmosphere in the story, thanks to the mystery caused by the character.

While I found the character depth and development adequate, I can't say the same for the story. I would say that the story ends at the same level it started.

You expect an increase in the psychological thriller-horror genre, especially after the threat of the supernatural “Gray Man”, but the expectations are not met. Margaret's character's paranoia and the fear she creates is the peak of tension and horror.

The disconnect in the story and the deficiencies in the progression are very noticeable. The slowness in the pace of the story is bearable, but constantly lowering the tension and horror effect leads to a detachment from the story and the atmosphere created.

From the viewer's point of view, I can say that this is a production with a lot of negative elements and disconnections in the story.

I can repeat that I found the atmosphere and suspense of the movie successful, but it would not be wrong to say that it loses its impact as a result of the lack of a gradually increasing momentum and the continuation of the movie in the same cycle.

The side characters in the movie do not contribute anything to the movie. Even the name of the character Gray Man was impressive, but after the end of the mystery and the revelation, it was a disappointment.

The character of Margaret was the strongest aspect of the movie along with the initial atmosphere. If themes such as faith and the fear of the unknown had been dealt with more effectively, the aspects of the movie that I found lacking could have been completed.

I recommend watching Hold Your Breath because of its visual atmosphere and the successful acting of the main character. Otherwise, the movie is mediocre and lacks in many aspects. The initial story and the paranoia that develops creates a psychological horror, but the feeling of fear is not developed.

Thank you for being here and reading, take care and goodbye!
