My entry to the #monomad challenge: Finding Creative Outlets in the Daily Grind

avatar

I've been working a lot lately, and it's been both physically and mentally exhausting. I never imagined that desk work and spending long hours in front of a computer could be so straining on my legs and back. It's definitely going to take some time before I get used to this routine. As much as possible, I try to find ways to incorporate some stretching and a bit of walking throughout my workday.

Whenever the weather cooperates, I love going for longer walks, and I always do it with a purpose. Just a simple walk can get boring, so to make it more exciting, I bring my camera along and take photos. I wouldn't call it a full-on photowalk, but it's something similar. My goal during these walks is to find interesting subjects along the way and capture them as best as I can.

It's a simple concept—taking photos is as easy as pressing a button on the camera. However, the challenging part is finding the right angle to take the shot. I'm constantly thinking and analyzing the scene, trying to position myself for the best possible angle.

Street photography, in particular, isn't easy, especially when it involves moving subjects. It's not something I can stage to get the perfect shot I envision. Most of the time, it's a trial-and-error process. Unfortunately, many of the photos I take aren't great, and I end up deleting most of them from my phone.

But, on this photowalk, I managed to capture and edit a few images that I'm happy with. Here they are!

"overnight pounding"

"slow down"

"fast car"

"parking code"

"fresh puppies for sale"

"24/7 711"

"dash through"

"parking rate"

"cool bike"

"basket light"

"about to cross"

"still waiting"

"photobomb"

"pipeline"

"still waiting"

"rushing back home"

"busy on the phone"

"golden wheels"

Incorporating photography into my walks has been a refreshing way to break up the workday and explore new creative outlets. Despite the challenges of street photography, it's been rewarding to capture moments and scenes that catch my eye. I look forward to continuing this practice and honing my skills, finding inspiration in the everyday world around me.

Of all the photos, for me this is the most impressive and tells the story of a quiet night on the street. Where a man has to work hard collecting used drink cans to sell to earn money of course. Thank you for sharing interesting and meaningful stories and photos that can be used as material for introspection and motivation that are conveyed through the visual works that you share.

I agree with you. I’m mostly impressed by the hardwork that the old guy has been doing all day and night collecting the things that most people don’t even care about. The hammer, made of solid, is not light and using it to flatten the cans can be straining for the body.

I salute the old guy 🫡
