It's All About Metal Art! (My entry to the POBphotocontest

When I saw the POB photography contest with the theme "metal," I made a note to participate in this one. I have a collection of photos featuring various forms of metal, primarily street sculptures. These days, modern sculptures are often made of metal or steel because they are cost-efficient, lightweight, and durable. Another advantage is their flexibility, making them easier to reshape compared to other materials.

From the many photos in my archive, I chose an artwork by Svay Sareth titled "Mon Boulet," which translates to "My Ball," as my entry for the POB photography contest. Here it is:

This is a giant ball, which may not be immediately noticeable in a photo. That’s why I waited for someone to walk around it, adding a sense of scale at just the right moment. The ball itself is enormous, even larger than the average person’s height.

What’s particularly interesting about this artwork is the story behind it. The artist pulled this massive metal ball over a six-day journey to symbolize the resilience of the human spirit.

Although the photo contest only requires one photo as an entry, I’d like to share more of the photos I’ve taken that highlight metal as one of their key characteristics. This next photo features a sculpture in front of Parkview Square on North Bridge Road. Interestingly, Svay Sareth’s artwork shares a similar approach with this one, symbolizing the strength of humanity in overcoming life’s challenges.

Lastly, I’d like to include some random photos that also feature metal as the main subject of these shots:

Thank you for taking the time to explore my entries for the POB photography contest with me. Metal, as both an element and a symbol, has so much to offer in terms of storytelling and artistic expression. I hope these photos inspire you to look at everyday objects and sculptures with a new appreciation for their strength and resilience.

Yeah. That’s why I’m amazed by the artist because it must be a tough journey pulling this giant ball.
