Holozing Fan art: Grass-type Dragon!

So, it’s way past my bedtime, but here I am, still adding the final touches to my new Holozing fan art; just like a student cramming to finish a project due tomorrow, lol. I just couldn't go to bed with this artwork unfinished; I know I'd be tossing and turning all night, thinking about it. I guess that’s just my dedication to my craft, right? Anyway, whatever the case, I'm just glad I got it done!

This is my third dragon Holomon artwork, inspired by a grass-type dragon!

If you noticed, my first two artworks had the dragons in a baby-like form, but this latest piece feels a bit more mature. I focused more on proportion and details, especially since it's a close-up view. I wanted to add as much detail as possible without overcomplicating things. I’m still learning, after all, and I don't want to get frustrated by spending too much time on unnecessary details.

My workflow was a bit different this time. I started with a rough sketch on a piece of paper using just a ballpoint pen. I happened to have some free time at work, so I managed to create the sketch during my break.

Here’s how it turned out; it’s pretty rough, I know.

From there, I snapped a photo, sent it to my laptop, and got to work on the outlines.

Everything was going smoothly until I got to the grass blades, lol. I have this habit of making things more complicated than they need to be. I ended up drawing the outlines of each blade of grass, trying to make it look like it was done with precision.

After that tedious process, I finally got to the coloring part... my favorite! I based the colors on a reference image but made a few tweaks here and there.

Once I was happy with the base colors, I added shading and highlights to give the character more depth. I really enjoyed this part because it made the character feel more alive with each brushstroke.

And here’s the final result! The clouds were done using a custom brush, then softened with a blur filter for that dreamy effect.

Overall, I'm really proud of how this artwork turned out, and I'm excited to keep improving my skills. Can't wait to share more creations with you all... stay tuned for the next dragon!

I like it! Especially the fact that he has grass in his mouth, I don't know why but that little detail caught my attention first.

Thanks! 😊 I see him as a dragon who keeps munching all day, which is why I added that detail. 😄

Wow, you have a great skill there!!!

Amazing photos, interesting how you decided to take a photo and then draw it on a screen. I should definitely try this.
