Chasing Light: A Friday Night Photography Walk

Finally, it’s Friday... the day I’ve been waiting for! I can’t hide my excitement because Fridays are when I get to enjoy one of my favorite activities: going on a photo walk. It keeps me active on Friday nights and throughout the weekend, provided the weather cooperates and allows me to explore the city outdoors.

A while ago, I had the incredible opportunity to go on a walk. The weather is starting to feel seasonal—what many would call the Christmas season. During this time of year, the temperature is slightly cooler than what we experience in the summer. It’s perfect for walking because I don’t have to worry about being drenched in sweat, which is quite uncomfortable during photography walks. Cooler weather lets me focus more on my subjects and enjoy taking pictures.

As I thought about where I wanted to go on a beautiful night like this, Clarke Quay came to mind. However, I realized that on a Friday night with such lovely weather, the area would likely be crowded with people. Since I was still feeling a bit tired from the week’s work, I decided to opt for a more relaxing location that would still be perfect for a photo walk. I chose the Beach Road area. While it may not have as many buildings as Orchard Road for architectural photography, it offered a different charm for tonight’s shoot.

There’s a specific spot on Beach Road that features several buildings with incredible architectural designs. These include Parkview Square, Duo Residences, and The Gateway. What’s cool about this location is that these buildings are in close proximity to one another, which makes it possible to capture them all in a single frame using a wide-angle lens. For me, that’s an exciting and visually compelling subject to photograph.

My DJI Osmo Pocket has a wide enough field of view to capture an entire building in a single picture, which is why I enjoy using it. It also has sufficient features to produce decent pictures even at night. In contrast, my old iPhone struggles to take good pictures in low-light conditions like this, making it difficult to achieve the same results.

I’m contributing these photos to the photography lovers' community, as it has been quite a while since my last contribution.

Exploring the city through photography is always a refreshing way to unwind after a busy week. It allows me to capture the beauty of architecture and moments that often go unnoticed, even in familiar places. I hope these snapshots inspire you to see the world around you in a new light and to explore your own creative passions.

Yeah, I think so too. They covered most of its facade with hexagon pattern.

Really cool shots of a really cool architecture! I guess in Singapore there are lot's of skyscrapers and probably of any kind even the HIVE looking ones :)

😅 I still don't know why they chose honeycomb as the pattern but it looks very interesting to look at, especially that somehow I can relate to it because of Hive :)

Nice man. How I wish I can do Friday photo walks instead of being stuck in review meetings.

You do have a busy schedule even on Fridays. Try to balance a bit and have a good rest.

Looks like you also had a nice TGIF wanderings 👍

About the blurry image, i think it has something to do with the time you took the photo. For me, when the sky is already astro blue (after 7:30pm in Singapore time) it will not result to a good one. It will be blurry or too grainy.

Try taking photo from 6:00 to 7:00pm, while the sky is still blue or light blue and then adjust the brightness down when editing the photo.

I really like these skyscraper contributions. We only have something like this in Germany in Frankfurt am Main ;-)

All the angles you capture are perfect, you can appreciate from different perspectives the great thing about these modern buildings, it is the complexity of architecture captured in photographs.
