When I was a child, I had a classmate who suffered from the invented syndrome, more days of classes that he did not attend than the readings he took, because he always invented ailments or some ailments and assumed the role of a sick person in front of his parents to avoid going to school.
I remember the classmate not because he was a close friend, but because he was the friend of my brother-in-law today, and between conversations he would tell us that the ailments his friend claimed to have were his inventions to avoid going to school.
Thinking about it, in my case, maybe at some point I invented an illness in order not to go out with my father, and that counts as an invented syndrome, the truth is that that was left behind and I can't imagine why adults still do it.
