You know you homeschool when…
you tell your kids to take a shower and they ask “where are we going?” or “who is coming over?” 🤦🏽♀️
as soon as your husband gets home from work you’re at the door ready to go work your gig job.
you start getting dizzy after the 1000th daily question from your kids. 😵💫
you schedule calls with family and friends for adult conversation.
your restroom breaks turn into a secret getaway. 👀
you do math all Summer long due to backed up work from procrastinating throughout the school year.
your snack pantry is constantly empty and in need of refilling. 🫢
your alarm clock is set to a different time every night depending on how much work needs to get done the next day.
you count going to the grocery store as a field trip. 😂
it takes you awhile to remember what grade each of your kids are in when someone asks.
every time you’re out and about and someone asks your kids why they aren’t in school you laugh. 😄
the superintendent is your husband.
you record recess time for physical education hours. 🤭
your kids look at you for reassurance before answering the question “what grade are you in?”
Any of you homeschooling parents relate to any of these?
I got to thinking the other day about how different our daily life is from those who attend public school. It literally had me cracking up thinking about how we do things. 😆
These particular things are what I gathered from our household but I’m sure many of you get these and understand why they are funny.
That first one is true. Unfortunately I have to tell or remind my boys to take a shower (I don’t know why little boys are okay with not being clean lol). When I persist and firmly make them get in there they know we have an outing or someone is coming over that day. 😅
And yes, I seriously make my restroom ”breaks” last a lot longer than they should. It’s a mental downtime for me and I make no apologies for it. 😝
It takes work to remember and name each grade my kids are in every time someone asks. Heck it’s a struggle remembering their ages at this point in life. 🤷🏽♀️
Hey, we don’t have all the extra finances to get our kids in sports right now so every minute spent outdoors is exercise. Why not count it for physical fitness? 😌
Lastly, any outing away from the house is a field trip in my book. 😜

Homeschooling is challenging, tiresome and many times stressful but till this day I don’t regret the decision to educate our children at home. It has strengthened my entire family and we are constantly growing and learning from this journey.
Take breaks when you can (whether it’s a restroom break or a real break from school 🤣) because when you’re refreshed you’re at your best. 💖

Children will always be children and this is what is said to be experienced when being around them with the funny scenes and questions. It been long I saw them make a post and I hope they are preparing to publish any time soon.

We had a long year and they are finishing up on their math work that we got behind on. They both have been wanting to make another post and I think we’ll get to it soon before the Summer ends. That was nice of you to remember about them posting ~
Yes, this is too true! Mine is whenever I straighten the living room (or ask them to help), the kids always ask if someone is coming over. NO! I just want it straightened!! Ha! Yeah, when I go to the store alone (which rarely happens), the cashier will always ask if the kids are in school - Nope, they're at home! We had to fill out papers years ago to put the kids in public school for a year to learn Spanish. I had to write them a transcript with the principal's name, teacher's name, etc. on it. Yep, hubs was the principal and I was the teacher. Strangely the Panamanian government accepted them! HA!
Hahaha oh my goodness yes! Same here when I ask them to straighten the living room or clean their bathroom. I always tell them no one has to be coming over for them to clean...they should want to live in a clean home lol.

My son has been educating himself for many years now so we're past the doing lessons together stage.
However, we both have a problem with “what grade are you in?”. I have completely lost track of that. My plan is to wait till he turns 17 to enroll him to an umbrella school to get some paper saying he graduated, same as we did with my daughter!
Congrats for keeping your sanity while dealing with being a mother and a teacher at the same time.
I experienced that a little more this past school year with my eldest daughter. She's 13 and just finished the 7th grade. She was able to get most of her lessons done without my assistance. I must admit it was pretty nice not having to do entire lessons with her because it gave me the opportunity to work more with my younger ones.
That sounds like a good plan. Soon I'll be needing to figure out those next steps once my daughter reaches high school level.

For me, homeschooling was a wonderful experience. I really wish that in my country we had the possibility to educate our children at home. Although my wife and I continue to strengthen their learning, the fact that they have to comply with inflexible programs, that generalized strategies are applied, and that on many occasions the children's tastes and preferences for learning are not even considered, has cost us a lot. During the pandemic our children adapted to home schooling, the issue of schedules and following a plan was the most complex but we managed together, that they create their space and environment to be educated at home and establish rules, if it is a little difficult, more when they are small but after overcoming that everything is really wonderful.
It's great you had a wonderful homeschooling experience.
This is a big issue and the reason I believe many struggle in school. The classrooms aren’t tailored for individualized learning and everyone has to move at the same pace whether they’re ready to move on or not. Homeschooling has definitely allowed us to learn each of our children’s strengths and weaknesses. We have been able to customize their education based on the way they learn and comprehend. It makes a huge difference when they are able to move at their own pace which better sets them up to excel.
It seems this is what would really work for your family from what you shared. I hope in the near future the opportunity will open up for your family to be able to homeschool.
Yes, with younger ones it’s more challenging but as time passes it does get a bit easier.

I’m telling you, there have been times where I’ll be so tired or frustrated and I’ll have a small thought like “I wonder what it would be like if they went to school outside our home?” But I never ever give in and never will. Me being able to be with my kids all the time, being their mother and teacher is a blessing I don’t want to take for granted. I have witnessed every milestone they have each went through and it brings joy knowing I’m able to be there for them and with them every step of the way. ☺️
Without those breaks I wouldn’t have made it this far. 😳🤣

Homeschooling is a wonderful opportunity to develop skills and abilities in our children in a free and at the same time coordinated way, it allows them to have autonomy in their own process, it is really a challenge for all parents but it also creates emotional bonds that become strong over the years.
