I went from the number 1 for engagement and comments on Steemit to pennies per post on hive.. LOL

avatar

Hey everyone. Looking around here I find it rather humorous how the "proverbial playing field' is far from even. Growing up as my Mother regularly told me "Craig, life's not fair, get over it" and from a young age I did and have, but by goodness what is going on?? TRUTH anyone, because I certainly would love an explanation??

I joined Steemit in 2017 and later Hive (how ironic as I'm a beekeper) I built up a semi decent reputation of a modest 72 and in my humble opinion don't post crap and generally kept my slate clean and stayed out of "trouble" in my opinion, forgive me if you do not agree.

Of late my posts are worth pennies and less...literally, so I got looking around as to which posts are making the "big bucks", they must be uber quality with tons of awe inspiring life changing content, right? To my utter dismay, (NOT) no not really, mostly repetitive and at times not even an original picture just a jabber of text or code that no one understands or much cares for? (Who remembers the pathetic scammy ramblings of that fraudulent w@nker haejin??, well hello there cyborg, introduce me to your human??

This is me on "at the top"....

https://steemit.com/contest/@craigcryptoking/take-one-for-the-team-and-tag-a-mate-contest-6-sbd-giveaway-round-12-2nd-of-2-for-the-week ... yes folks 375 comments and more regularly who's done that on hive??

Back on steemit I used to have a competition where I rewarded commenters based on their comment order, I was regularly top for comments and engagement multiple times weekly. The competition I ran was epic and folks loved it... hundreds of comments per post literally hundreds per post weekly. I did very well (Alexa was off the charts) something was getting the attention of the "powers that are" as the whales regularly popped in and complained.. I'm using too much this that and the next thing "they exclaimed". Well now I have a rep of 72 been here over 5 years, experienced enough, content decent enough for a few more pennies then I'm getting, if anything compared to other posts with a bunch of general code or nonsensical jabber and or whale "warfare" earning all the cash money. Not to mention those epic 1 line comments that garner a hefty $4 upvote, #facepalm "how fair".

So my posts aren't for everyone, but who's are?? I choose not to live my life in the fake "metaverse" where everyone is on a screen and in virtual reality. I love nature and plants and animals and if you think back to the good times 30 years ago that's all we had, it was a better life and no-one can fault that.

Lesson learnt my Mom was right "life's not fair Craig, get over it" and I have, and albeit my current epic earning of 40c a post because, by this court, that's all they are worth, I'll take that and it's 40c well appreciated, so thank you.

The weekly regular number 1 spot and 375 comments or more was epic and all, but I find myself asking just one question, was it all just for the money?? Who knows and really, who cares?

Love life and blessings.
Have a lekka weekend.
Cheer$;)

The thought's above expressed are mine alone and I trust you take away from these few strung together letters a powerful message.

Ahooi Craig!

We are here for the money and not for the money. I think that we need a reason to be busy and come back to that we actually enjoy rather than just come here to make money.

You see, if you are just grafting on Hive to make money it becomes work and work is hard/shit and generally you would like to do something else with your time.

If you are writing about that you like/love and interact with others that you enjoy interacting with, then you win far more in a human experience.

I've been setting up a more interactive local and international community.

I have set up so many people in my local area that we can literally organise a braai with our friends on Hive lol.

While you have been around for a long time, I was here a long time ago and came back to the blockchain after the whole hardfork business. I literally paid someone to teach me the ropes again. Things are different and I can very much say that there are things I could help you with if you want.

I am looking at what you are posting and yes, they can earn better. That's what Community is all about!

Cheers!

Hey bud to a point I agree but also not really, the truth really is about wallet size. It was that way on steemit and is here too. A whale can literally post a picture of dogshit and hey presto $50 it happened there regularly (on steemit) and does here too. I have a good life outside of hive brother, the pennies or not don't mean a thing to me, it just makes me less willing to post for peanut crumbs. Id rather build relationships in the real world with real people then silly screen. You get it right? Thanks for popping in. Cheer$;)

I get it, there is no need to return here if all it's about is the peanut crumbs.

I totally agree about the "big wallets can post anything" but that is fighting against a natural sense of selection and preference that is not a problem in Hive specifically but happens in all of life.

Yes, the big wallets get the most attention, but the other people who get a lot of attention are people who interact with multiple big wallets as well as smaller wallets.

In reality, the company or person that has lots of money and nice things generates more interest from others than someone who has less money.

It's either that or the "lesser wallet" must add more value in time and service.

We constantly have those values in our minds to judge whether or not we spend time with other people. I am not saying you only want to spend time with extremely positive millionaires.

But, I would like to point out that the average working person does not go out of their way to spend time with a penniless beggar who does not work to better themselves despite you assistance and the assistance of others give them. Eventually, you will avoid the person if all they do is take your assistance as an easy-out to buy more drugs and ruin their health.

We can draw parables of kids on the playground or of men and women dating. It's a sense of value for time, either in things, a good experience, or both that attract people to one another.

Therefore the big wallets can post about their day in the town and the sandwich they ate at the coffee shop. Not only do they attract the attention of their peers, but that of hundreds of accounts that want to interact with them.

If I posted the same thing, I might not get noticed.

The only way that I can counter these ideas is to engage with others and support a sense of Community in the circles I keep in Hive and support people large and small. I have managed to x2,23 my HP since the beginning of the year.

I saw and read your post because someone recommended you. You are a South African. You also had recent posts to read and to read that you managed to get to 375 comments on a post is amazing!

This post HERE of mine has managed 269 comments so far. So I really liked your idea. You got flack for it on Steemit, but there is a competition that is run once a month that I know about that pretty much follows the same type of rules. Comment numbers running on certain multiples win the prize... Let me see if i can find it and I will send it to you.

Lol. I hope what I have written above comes across as supportive and encouraging, because that is what I am seeking to do here. I agree with you about the big wallets earning the most. Though I do know how to make what you earn on Hive more than it is now... for certain. Tried and tested methods!

You were interested in how to "hack the system" before 😉

Either way it was cool to "hack their system" and be number 1 for comments and engagement back then. Funny how even that they didnt like.... oh and talking of engagement and community brother did you click on that steemit post of 375 comments, what more can one want then that.. who's done that regularly here??
