Are Honey-bees the insect world's master builders??

Hey everyone, I truly believe so.. not only do they build symmetrically perfect honey combs, they are master home renovators too..

So what exactly are these lovely ladies (all worker bees are females) doing? With the onset of winter the bees are closing the holes in their hive in order to keep it warmer through the cold months. With a mixture of wax and resin/nectar they make a bee cement called propolis for this task, propolis has incredible medicinal properties too.

We dont normally put supers (honey collection frames) on in winter, but recently realized that not doing so, we end up losing lots of not collected honey. What our new strategy will be is to leave supers on 24/7/365

Adding supers to these brood boxes naturally result in gaps between the frames which the master builder worker bee simply seal with team work in unison!

As the weather cools down drastically they will close most holes leaving only their entrance holes open which too they will close smaller in size to preserve heat.
