Take the Cannoli
My day has been quite hectic. I left home this morning, and I'm just arriving home, and it's almost 7 pm. I had to take my mother to medical checkups and spent the afternoon with my sister in the hospital while my brother-in-law was undergoing surgery. And to top it all off, when I was returning from dropping my niece at home, my car overheated. Luckily it was very close to a service station where I was helped.
I arrived home safe but craving to eat a cannoli.
Because of the time, I'll have to wait until tomorrow to satisfy my craving, but at least I can tell you about the cannoli.
Have you eaten cannoli? Do you know what they are?
Cannoli are Italian pastries consisting of tube-shaped shells of fried pastry dough, filled with a sweet, creamy filling containing ricotta—a staple of Sicilian cuisine. Source.
A couple of months ago, I discovered a cafe in the city that has been open for a long time, but I didn't know about it until now. Their specialty is Italian food, they sell homemade pasta with authentic Italian flavor, and you feel like you're having lunch at Nonna's house, but what has me hooked on the place are their cannoli.
My favorite is the traditional, authentic Sicilian cannoli filled with creamy sweet ricotta cheese. I don't remember ever tasting a cannoli like this in Caracas, and it reminds me of the cannoli I first tasted when I was an exchange student and ended up with a friend spending a weekend in Naples since her cousin lived there. In my memory, I remember the first time I ate an authentic cannoli, and the ones from this cafe are very close to that memory.
I've also tried the custard fillings they make, and they're delicious, but the traditional one is superb. And with one of their cappuccinos, they are heavenly.
So today, I came home with the famous line from the movie The Godfather in mind, when Clemenza says to Rocco after he finishes Paulie off.
"Leave The Gun. Take The Cannoli." - Peter Clemenza in The Godfather
The cafe in Caracas is called Pastas Dalidia and is located in the neighborhood La Carlota.
That's all for today. Thanks for reading!

Great. Have a wonderful day ahead.
You have described it very well hehe crunchy and delicious
Have a great day and time for me to hit the sack 😊
This looks so yummy..
Btw, how's your brother-in-law now?,
For me, they are a perfect dessert, sweet but not cloying.
My brother-in-law is doing well. The surgery went well, and he will probably be able to go home tomorrow. Thank you for asking 🥰
That's good to know 😊
Oh my, you are having a time! I hope the surgery went and that both your brother-in-law and sister are bearing up.
I have never eaten cannoli and your description makes my mouth water. Your Naples memory is a bit like my memory of sopas Mallorquin a dish with aubegine and only served in little back of beyond places. It's divine. I cannot either find a recipe or replicate it. Every now and again I try...now I want to again...
Hi Fiona. My brother in law surgery went well and he is at home, fortunately. The Mallorquin soup sounds like a tasty one. I will ask my cousin. She lived in Mallorca for more than five years, maybe she knows that soup.

That is good to hear!
A recipe would be fabulous! I would be most grateful. As I recall, the name is misleading because the dish is not a soup at all!
I'd love to go back to Mallorca. A friend and former colleague of mine (whom I visited) lived there for nearly 20 years. I loved the lifestyle.
Well, I found this recipe https://www.bonviveur.es/recetas/sopas-mallorquinas. It's in Spanish, and I promise I will translate it for you these days. They describe the dish as a dry soup ;) Sopa is soup in Spanish.
I have only been in Mallorca once for a few days. During a family vacation with my family in Galicia, I escaped for a weekend to visit my cousin. And I loved it, although I didn't get to see much of the island.
A dry soup! That's exactly right! When I am properly awake (it's 4am - don't ask...) I will find a link to a that includes some photos of my time there.
Thank you for the recipe. I will have a look at it - with G**gle translate and ask you if I have a problem. I am excited to get to my desk to look properly!😍
I hope the recipe turns out like the meal you have fond memories of. 😋
You are very welcome 🤗

Of course ma'am, it's a must try
Now you've inspired me to look around town for cannoli.😀 It looks so tempting. I tried something similar in Greece, but I didn't try traditional Italian. I'll take the cannoli for sure!😀 Many greetings to you, amiga!🤗
Hola, amiga! I'm sure you'll love them.
Cheers!🤗
