Have you ever used them

Hello awesome Hivers and Silver Bloggers

This month's #BOM is an invitation to go down memory lane and look back and remember so many things we used in our younger years that have fallen into disuse. Things technology and the passing of time have left behind, but which are still there in our memories.

To illustrate my post, I looked in the cupboard for one of those boxes of my husband's that have still survived all my decluttering attempts. I was looking for some music cassettes, but I didn't find any. However, I did find a lot of Betamax and VHS cassettes. My husband still has a few, most of them recorded by materials from when he was a film student.

In the box, I found a couple of phone cards of the kind we used to call in the phone boxes in those days when we didn't have a mobile phone. I had my first mobile phone in the mid-1990s when I started working, but I remember very well the first models of mobile phones that were called bricks that were used in the early 90s.

I also found slides, and although these are also of my husband and his audiovisual works. I remember seeing in my house, next to the Super 8 film projector, a slide projector where we saw the photos my father took of us as children.

Taking photos ...

At home, we have a small collection of old cameras, and one of them is a Minolta that belonged to my father. I remember that this camera was a novelty in its time because it used 110 mm film that was used by the simplest cameras and that it was much cheaper, but the camera had a good lens.

At that time, we didn't take photos as we do now. We had to choose carefully what pictures to take because it was expensive to develop the photos.

Listening to music ...

In the 70s, for me, it was the time of the vinyl records that we played on a record player, which here in Venezuela we called Picó. In the 80s, the cassette craze with the launch of the Walkman and how sometimes we used pencils to rewind them forwards or backward.

In the '80s, when I was a teenager and started going to parties, it was trendy to have them with a Miniteca. And I also remember a time when jukeboxes became fashionable, and people used to rent them for parties.

And computers came along...

In my first years of doing homework in school, I remember doing some work using a typewriter. And although I remember that I used an electric typewriter that my aunt had, more than once, I used the old typewriter that is in the picture, and that was in my grandmother's house.

But in the late '70s, computers came along. The first computer in my house was an Apple IIe that my father bought for work. They used floppy disks on which information and software were stored.

Have you ever used them (2).png

However, at that time, we used to do our homework by researching books in the library, and at home, there was an encyclopedia.

We use to send letters and postcards. And although, there is no doubt that this new era in communication makes it easier for us to stay connected with friends and family in other parts of the world, sending and receiving letters and postcards was very nice.

The old generations always say that the old days were better. I will not fall into that cliche, but I will say that I liked the time I lived in my youth.

This is my out-of-competition post for the Silver Bloggers community #BOM, this month about Things, or memories, from (y)our youth that today's youth will not understand or have seen.

Remember you have until next Tuesday, July, 19 at midnight UTC. You can check instructions and prizes at Blog of the Month - New theme for Tuesday 19 July.

My greetings @coquicoin.
For those of us from the 50s or 60s, your post brings us reminiscences of good times, as your father says. For sure technology has brought easier ways, shortened distances, that is why Alvin Toffler called it "The great engine of change". However, as Muhammad Yunus said "Technology is important, but the only thing that matters is what we do with it".
Take care...

Thank you very much for stopping by. Technology is indeed great, but it is because of what we can do with it.
Have a great week :)

Oh these are beautiful memorabilia of the past days :) We did use most of them and kinda nice to remember how we used to be in those years. Glad though that technology evolved so much that most of the things we love to do became easier and when it comes to cost, cheaper too :)

Hi, sis! Salamuch 😍
Those were good days but technology has been a great help and the secret lies in how we use it, whether to our advantage or not.
Thanks for your continuous support, amiga. And for the boost of my post. 🥰 You are awesome and I adore you, sis 🤗
Have a magical week

What a lovely trip down memory lane Eli! I fondly remember all those things, and agree with you that those were good days, but so is the present time with learning how to use all the exciting new inventions!
A wonderful #bom💞

Hi Lizzie :) That's right. They were good times, but these are also good ones. Each era has its charm, and I believe that none of them is better or worse. They are stages that we should enjoy with the novelties that each one offers at its time.
Have a lovely week 🤗

Hi amiga. ❤️ I get a nostalgic feeling in my stomach when I look at these things. 😊Sometimes I miss music audio cassettes and VHS cassettes and the excitement we had when we went to the video club to pick out the VHS cassettes with the movie we wanted to watch. I still keep a lot of audio cassettes and some old mobile phones. I had my first phone much later than you, I think in 2002. 😊

Hi, Jelena. I too used to love going to the video club to swap VHS films. I'm a bit nostalgic about the vinyl records that were so cool and the photos, although I think digital photography has been a great wonder, it was great to see how the photos looked after they were developed.
And I'm not surprised that you got your first mobile phone long after me, as I'm old enough to be your mum, hehe.

Have a magical week, amiga 🤗

However, at that time, we used to do our homework by researching books in the library, and at home, there was an encyclopedia.

Hah, good ole days! And there was more time to read, it seems. I don't know what happens today, that we touch the cellphone and bang... day ended.

I agree with you, I feel before we had much more time to read and go through books. Cellphones can be time killers indeed.
Thank you very much for stopping by :)

I had one of those recorders but they stole it, I never had a camera until they gave me the cadivi dollars and I bought a recorder, then came these cell phones that do magic and the camera I have not touched it again. You made me remember my high school days when they gave us typing classes. :DDDDDDDDD

The old generations always say that the old days were better. I will not fall into that cliche, but I will say that I liked the time I lived in my youth.

This made me laugh out loud. I didn't meet most of the things you mentioned but I met a VHS cassette because my dad is not a minimalist. He keeps everything and even now we still have the VHS. I also met this record player that comes with a very large round disc with a hole in the middle that you place something like a long stick on it for it to start playing. I don't know what it is called but my dad still had it even though we had dvd at that time 😄😄.

I used typewriter in school just because it was part of my curriculum. Computers are better and I'm glad we have them with us.

@coquicoin I also used a typewriter, a friend's mother lent it to me and even taught me to write without looking at the keyboard, a true typist. LOL!

Hehe! I could type without looking at the keys but always used only two fingers. I never learned to type using all the fingers of my hand ;) Thank you for stopping by :)

I can still remember how i love to see the negative film of the camera before. I will be happy just looking the picture in the film while it hasn't been developed. I tried to use typewriter too before when making our projects in school. I miss those days but yes technology develops as Gid gave knowledge and wisdom to people.

It's true that seeing the negatives before developing the films was great, I liked to see them too.
