A walk around Paseo Los Próceres

avatar

Hello, awesome Hivers!

Happy #WednesdayWalk, everyone.

In my walk today, which I actually did yesterday, I'm going to show you another area of Caracas. Yesterday, I was running errands with my son and I had to go near the Paseo Los Próceres. This is a promenade that is located next to a military area. The streets along the promenade have little traffic and are very safe. On weekends, they are usually closed to vehicular traffic and many people go there to walk, skate or ride bicycles.

Yesterday, I had to go to a shopping centre in that area and I thought that even though the day was very cloudy it was worth taking a short walk around the area to share it here on the Wednesday Walk.

So after parking the car, we went out onto the street and walked towards Paseo Los Próceres.

This whole area of the city dates back to the 50s when Venezuela lived under a military dictatorship and at that time many monumental works were made in the country.

PaseoPorLosProceres_1.jpg

The first thing we come across is a large obelisk with the figure of a man on horseback.

PaseoPorLosProceres_2.jpg

On the sides of the promenade, there are many areas with concrete benches. But instead of walking along the center of the promenade, we went to the pavement in front of one of the streets along it.

PaseoPorLosProceres_3.jpg

On that side, there is a wooded area with some areas for exercise, and there are also several metal imitations of war tanks. And my son wanted to look around.

PaseoPorLosProceres_4.jpg

On this sidewalk there are also three large murals depicting major periods in the history of the nation's rise. The time of the conquest and the discovery, the time of the colony and the independence.

PaseoPorLosProceres_5.jpg

Then we approached where the monument to the Próceres is located. Two monoliths with the figures of the independence heroes sculpted on their sides. We did not approach to photograph them because they are almost at the entrance of a military fort and there were several military doing exercises in the area so we preferred not to take close up pictures, but you can see the two monoliths in the following image.

PaseoPorLosProceres_6.jpg

Crossing the street on the other side of the promenade where we were walking is the entrance to the park El Laguito that I told you about some time ago.

From this point, we could see the promenade towards the obelisk, full of fountains and water screens, which are all dry and out of operation, by the way.

PaseoPorLosProceres_7.jpg

This is one of several fountains along the promenade, but none were in operation or had water.

PaseoPorLosProceres_8.jpg

On the other side of the street at this point can be seen the buildings of the Circulo Militar, a complex of buildings with multiple purposes, including a hotel for the military, a theater, and multipurpose rooms.

PaseoPorLosProceres_9.jpg

We continued walking back towards the Obelisk, taking some pictures of the promenade.

PaseoPorLosProceres_10.jpg

It is a pity that the day was so cloudy, there was not even a bit of blue sky.

PaseoPorLosProceres_11.jpg

As we were walking along we came across a plant with these beautiful flowers. According to Google Lens, they are called Pereskia, you can correct me if I'm wrong.

And of course, when I saw it, I had to take a picture for @dswigle and #alwaysaflower.

PaseoPorLosProceres_12.jpg

Behind the Obelisk, we take this short, tree-lined road.

PaseoPorLosProceres_13.jpg

That took us to Paseo Los Ilustres, a long promenade adjacent to Paseo Los Próceres, and in front of which is the shopping center where we had the car.

We didn't walk through it and left this walk for another day since we had things to do in the mall before returning home.

PaseoPorLosProceres_14.jpg

This was our little walk around Paseo Los Próceres.

This is my post for this week's #wednesdaywalk challenge hosted by @tattoodjay in collaboration with #makemesmile hosted by @elizacheng.

If you made it this far, thank you for reading.

That was a grand little walk, the tank was a bit bizarre but fair enough if so much military dictatorship stuff going on. It reminded me of areas in Algeria.
I am glad you got your errands sorted out, and we have those clouds now, the moon is nowhere in sight!

Noooo, I can't believe it is cloudy. I wanted to see that picture of the moon.

The tanks there are a bit bizarre indeed and I don't like them one bit, but of course, Rodrigo wanted to take a look.
We have moved a lot of things forward but do you remember I told you I wanted to renew Rodrigo's DNI because of his little boy pic, well I have not been able to, the system is still down, for more than two weeks. So for the time being here it is impossible for someone to get a DNI or passport until they fix that, can you believe it?
Cosas que solo pasan aquí ...

And about the moon and the clouds

ffs Super Eli how are you supposed to get a passport or your DNI that is ridiculous!
The moon and clouds I was gutted, I even stayed up until 3.30am hoping, I did take some pictures, I have not looked as the moon was barely visible, only the top little part:(

Those are the absurd things that happen here that cause you to scream in frustration, but this time I'm not going to stress. If he can't get a new DNI, he'll go with the one he has with the face of a 9 year old wee rascal 🤣🤣.

Oh, the moon yesterday when I went out at night to look for Rodrigo I saw it. Here it was clear and I remembered you. It's a pity you couldn't see it because of the clouds, let's hope for the next one to be fully visible for you.

Yes I understand about the frustrated scream 🤣🤣🤣
Well you still have time to get a new one, it can't be down forever!
Ah you saw it jaja life throws us curveballs, I knew it would happen, three nights with no clouds, I knew it would be a bummer, ah well I think there is a shot for a story I have to write though, So that is the silver lining in the cloud that blocked the mooooon!

We still have some time, so I hope the moment of the frustrated screaming doesn't arrive jaja

You say you'll write a story of the moon, well I want to see action action jeje write write Supe Ed

Let's not think of the scream Super Eli
Well the moon shot and story is one in the pipeline, first is one about a 💩

What a gorgeous obelisk! I am a huge fan of them. A wonderful walk for the day, it looks a little blue from here! Don't worry! I had rain and fog this morning! Nothing to take a good walk with!

The flower may be what you call it, in the US, we call them oleander and this one is a beauty! The color is certainly vibrant! They come in all sorts of colors! White, purple, pink, light yellow, burgundy red and a salmon color and also peach! So many different colors! Thank you for showing them off and thank you for taking me along on your Wednesday Walk!

Caracas is such a beautiful city, I hope that it will return to be the place that you once remember! ❤️

Hi Denise! I like obelisks too.
Oleander that's what I thought it was when I saw it but then Google Lens told me the other name ;)
Caracas is beautiful, it has beautiful nature. But its infrastructure is in many cases suspended in the 90s when it was one of the modern and thriving capitals of Latin America. Hopefully one day it will regain its shine.
Have a lovely day :)

Thank you for taking us on this walk amiga. The promenade and everything is beautiful and refreshing to the eyes. I never thought Venezuela has been into military dictatorship. It is astonishing to see those monumental structures around the place.

Yes, sis, Venezuela before the 60s had several years of military dictatorships.
I'm glad you liked the virtual stroll:)
Happy evening, sis! 🤗

It seems our country had quite similar history although during those times, I've read stories that economy was a lot better. I loved the stroll, it was great to see your beautiful city :) Good evening to you sis. My network is having trouble since last night, lol!

During that time, specifically in the 50s, the economy was also better here. Although some years later, it was even better since there was a great economic upturn due to the oil boom in the 70s.

I hope your network is properly working now, have a great weekend, sis 😊😄

It seems during those years economies are better :)

My network is pretty bad. I wonder what changed because it's been great and then it started a few days ago. Everyone in my neighborhood is having the same issue.

Dear @coquicoin, sorry to jump in a bit off topic but may I ask you to support the HiveSQL proposal?
It lost its funding recently and your help would be much appreciated to keep the HiveSQL service free for the Hive community.
You can do it on Peakd, Ecency, Hive.blog or using HiveSigner.

Thank you for your support!

@dreemsteem tagged in a post and I came to find this one particular and boy and I glad I did :)

What a beautiful city.

I can't quite believe how immaculate it is! Not one piece of litter anywhere. It's remarkable!

It looks so clean and so peaceful. Thanks for sharing your walk and a fresh perspective!

Thank you for your kind words.
That part of the city is very clean, yes, but sadly not all of the city is so clean. However, there are some very nice areas.
Thanks for stopping by :)

The pleasure was all mine :)

Good to know! I almost took photos of the random litter lying around on my walk right now in righteous indignation.

But that never sits well with people so I restrained myself.

Progress!
